Recommend a TV HDD recorder

Can anybody recommend a decent TV HDD recorder with a decent size HDD?

I have a Panasonic Viera High Def 1080p plasma TV.
I can only get freeview, which is built into the TV. (I can't get Virgin Media in my area and don't fancy getting Sky)

I have been told about recorders that remember which programs you watch and record them automatically. Also the ability to send instructions from my phone, but maybe this is only possible with sky?
These features aren't essential, but would be nice.

Nice to have, would be the ability to burn to a DVD, but not essential.

Cheers
Boz

I have a Panasonic recorder, which burns DVD's I have it linked to my SKY HD box some I can transfer programmes over.

It's a few years old, but very user friendly. It came out top in the reviews at the time.

One of todays models

Humax have always been the leaders in Freeview PVRs but I don't know what functionality the latest boxes have.

Agree they are one of the best, but they don't have a DVD drive.

I've had humax boxes for quite some time now and never let me down

Always easy to use. They aren't as clever as the Tivo boxes that learn your viewing habits. But they do have a portal with things ilke iplayer and youtube.

As pointed out, no dvd recorders but you can use it as a media streamer, you just need either a set of home plugs or an ethernet cable if your router is in the same room.

Something like this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humax-HDR-FO...2672623&sr=1-4

I've got a Panasonic DMR-BS850*
It contains an Integrated 500GB PVR
with twin Freesat HD Tuners,
DVD with*Built-in Blu-Ray Recorder and various other bits and bobs.
I still like my SKY so it's connected to a 1tb HD box.
With your "wish list",like most, you'll probably end up buying a couple of bits of tech to cover most eventualities.

Cheers fellas,

Never heard of Humax before, but I think I'll be getting one at the weekend, the write up looks great.

Was tempted by the Panasonic as it would link well with the TV, but going to give Humax a try.

Humax are the best at what they do, but remember they don't play discs.

My missus pointed that out to me yesterday, I hadn't thought of it.

I think I'll pop into Richer Sounds tomorrow and see what advice they can give me.

Cheers fellas, I bought a 1TB Freeview HD+ one of these on Friday and it's the dogs danglies.

Also bought a 5 year extended warranty, as I've never really trusted anything Korean built, so covered for the life of the box.
