I believe I have seen this before (don't know what is represents). That Icon represent a POI search you last did. Try doing a new POI search like GAS station or resturtant and it should change.

I think if you go under points of interest, if you deselect all categories, all those sprocket things should go away. If you want to know what exactly those are, just down the list and see what you have selected to show.

The symbols are POIs from your last search. The sprockets are generally from the maintenance category of POIs So, for example, if you searched for an oil change center, the sprockets show you where they are. Just go into the NAV portion of iDrive and turn off POIs and they will go away.
