I looked around but nothing about tints in the desert. I live in vegas with a black car and black interior. I mean I had no tint with 80 degrees and It IS HOT! Now does it matter what brand of tint to get? Cuz im planning to do like 30 around and like very light in front windshield

I can vouch for what others have said...Huper Optik is probably your best bet. Here is their stats for their 20% and 30% ceramic film (it also comes in 40%, 50% and 60%):

Cheaper brands...even 5% limo black tint will only have a solar energy rejection rating of around 45%. At 35% tint maybe only 35% solar energy rejection. And I think while 5% limo tint looks cool during the day...it really sucks having to drive at night...you have very reduced visibility through your rear and back windows. Even if you only drive mostly during the day, I would stick around 20% - 30% range as a compromise. I personally went with Huper Optik 50 (50%) on all my windows except the windshield. If you really want to go extreme, some people even tint their front windshield with something really light, like Huper Optik Ceramic 60%.

honestly, if u park in the sun and your cars black... its gonna heat up with or without tint...

but while your driving in the sun... you'll definitely feel the difference with the tint on

Wow those are some good numbers it seems like huper optik is the way to go. Now I just gotta figure out who in vegas does this. Im probably gonna something like 20% all around and a 6 inches strip on the front.. because I love driving with a heavy tint but I hate it at night.. Thx for the advice guys

I will be tinting my blackonblack e90 soon...you gotta watch out for the PO-PO though. Because technically all any darker tint than stock is illegal.

I was just looking that VKOOL website and its a pretty nice product.. how much did u pay for it? Im planning to do tint on the sides and maybe a vkool on the front windshield.. but I hear its very expensive

I have worked for years with V-Kool & other sputtered IR/UV blocking film since they came onto the market many years ago.

Allow me to explain why V-Kool & Hüper, etc. are special. These films are multilayered (sputtered) & block both harmful IR & UV light. Other film generally blocks only UV light & are not sputtered which tend to delaminate (peel off) more easily. Sputtered film is harder to shrink & manipulate than standard automotive film also so this is critical to consider when choosing an installer.

Film with a high Solar Energy Rejection is usually rejecting IR & UV combined which is why you notice such a big difference with the V-Kool. Any type of film blocking IR (IR is where most of the heat comes from) will definitely be the solution to keep it "as cool as possible". If our customers ask for high heat rejection & high visability film combined (in the past this wasn't possible) then there isn't much choice than to go with these specialty films.

Ask a qualified installer if he owns a specialized meter. He can hold it up to glass in order to show you what it's all about to measure certain types of light.

A strong portion of IR light is not visible, thus maybe why you cannot see through with your IR goggles. The IR portion of the light spectrum is huge also.

What kind of goggles? Are you talking about thermal imaging?
Glass will absorb & retain heat so if you look at a car [with certain types of imaging systems] the heat from glass may flush out images behind it giving you the impression you cannot see through it... when your actually seeing into it as a heat source rather than a clear view.

Well, infrared light is used in fiberoptic lines, which are made of glass obviously, due to the extremely low losses (penetration). You're right in that the IR wavelength range is quite large, so there may very well be certain wavelengths which do indeed pass through glass.
