Passport Qi45 Installed

Just has a passport QI45 installed. This radar detector uses a bumper mounted system and is very discrete and really clean when installed.

Power was provided by the cigarette lighter wires, and the qi45 brain was mounted under the dash and above the pedals.

Bumper had to be removed to get sensor placement perfect!

Bracket was provided but an add-on was made to keep it straight and stable when installed.

Sensor mounted

LCD screen placed into the ash tray so it's easily hidden.

View form outside (Grill had to be cut for best signal)

Front shot (Car is filthy)

I mounted my Qi45 behind the grill and it works fine. Easier than pulling your entire front end off.

It's a radar detector, and instead of it being on the windshield it's mounted in the bumper/hidden in the ashtray.

I wish I didn't have to cut the lower grill, but that what was recommended so I did it.

Where did you run wires through the firewall???

I am doing my homework. I am looking to install the Escort 8500ci radar detector in my 2008 328I.

I am stumped on where to bring the wire for the Antenna / Receiver through the firewall from the engine compartment to the interior to connect to the interface.

I just don't see a grommet or hole anywhere openly visible in the firewall.

Can anyone show me a picture or offer advice.

I dropped the cover in the foot well on the driver’s side and see a large grommet area by can not see or get to it from the engine compartment.

I also dropped the foot well cover on the passenger side (fuse panel area) and don't see any grommets.

I'm sure someone here must know and have done something like this. Are there covers I can remove to find this access?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

John

Absolutely awesome spot for a remote radar reciever. Low and unobstructed. Don't bother with the ZR4 laser jammers. For $100 more you can get Laser Interceptors which are 100 times better. The rear mount Escort ZR4 jammer is all but useless.

If you look closely on the firewall you'll see a black factory grommet to get complete access to it you'll have t remove the foot well cover it's kinda a pain to get into. but that's how the e92's are.

The ash try was drilled and the wire was ran through and the controller was adhered with a 3m double stick tape. (complete removal of the center console trim is need to run the wires)
