Leasing does tie you in for a set period but some of the lease deals advertised seem cheaper than the PCP deals, worth having a look at the headline grabbers seem stupidly cheap for many Mercs.

No, no, no, no, no and absolutely no. Seeing as my wife will be driving it most of the time a V8 AMG is certainly not required!

Bt thanks for thinking of me anyway!

Correct!

No joy today, waiting for phone calls that never come! The only call has been from the Dorset dealer wanting to close me down on the original PCP deal. Have spoken to Greenoaks and DtD today.

Hey Pete, did you speak to my contact or someone else? If it was mine I will kick him up the butt as I don't refer people for a laugh

Did Dtd ask you to fill in the online form and then they would get back to you? They took 24hrs with me as the dealer has to run the quote.

Scott, I spoke to your contact this morning, he said he would get back to by this afternoon, but has emailed and said that quote will be with me tomorrow. Likewise, Spoke to DtD this morning, after filling out the online form, and am expecting a call back, realistically tomorrow. DtD did say that I won't get the full dealer deposit contribution in addition to their discount, but will probably get something. I will see what the figures look like!

Meanwhile, Dorset dealing beginning to push me.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks, however, C Class is too small and it's not an auto. A decent price though.

Yeah, any news? I went to my dealer today, and he couldn't get anywhere close to what you were even initially offered. Couldn't even find the car you were talking about, lol. You aint bought it have you?

Bit of a busy day today but managed a few phone calls/emails, a little on the disappointing side to be honest, as far as the E Class is concerned. DtD could only manage a discount which led to a monthly payment of £358 for a september delivery car, so not as good as expected and beaten by my original quote by the Dorset dealer. Have exchanged a few emails with Scott's contact, the price looked really good and then I realised that he was actually quoting on the SE model not the AMG Sport. He is getting back to me tomorrow with Sport figures. Looking at the level of discount on the SE I think, it highly unlikely that they will beat the £350 figure.

Not sure where I go from here having expected an even better deal. Meanwhile, Skoda dealer has offered me a just registered new Octavia estate TDI DSG Elegance to test for the day.....these are just £250/month on contract hire with free maintenance and tyres. Not as glam as the Merc (or as big) but ........ Maybe worth a closer look. However, £350 for an E class does seem stupidly cheap....

I have looked at them in the past but show me where I can get a new or nearly new one for less than £350/month! They are very expensive for a Ford, but unusually hold their value quite well.

Agreed. They are. Some offers are out there though. I got our Zetec (base spec + metallic) for £2500 down and £270ish per month on a 4 year PCP. It's on about 10k miles per year I believe. And really even though it's a Zetec it's got everything we need in a family bus. Actually it's a very nice drive. See here.

Peter, did you decide on a new estate?

I'm now thinking that Contract hire may be the way to go and wondered what you ended up with.

I didn't go for it in the end, just wasn't comfortable with the deal.

Still on the look out and may now lean towards a large SUV/4x4.

I just bought a vw sharan after nothing else came close in terms of flexibility and convenience. top of the range 177 tdi dsg del with most of the options.

21% discount and a guaranteed px trade in value for 3 months time which beats what many dealers were offering for trade in now.

beat the dtd price by about 2k along with the added convenience of the px.

Mrs, who has no time for cars and little time for my car buying antics over the years, has finally decided that she wants a Land Rover. We had a Discovery 3 for a few years in 2005, this is the only car that she has ever said she really liked.

So, it looks as though I will be looking for a Disco. If she wants a big 4x4, I tried to suggest another Mercedes GL, as there are some phenomenal deals and discounts on these at the moment, with the added benefit of not having to add any options (metallic, heated seats, xenons, COMAND, sidesteps etc all standard) but she doesn't want one. The GL is more akin to a Range Rover and is very luxurious. Trouble with Discos is that they are expensive to buy, and the deals are not particularly enticing.

I had a quote for a base spec D4 GS auto with metallic for £580/month with a £3000 deposit (£35500 discounted price for the car and a 4 year residual of £13200). The GL 350 Bluetec AMG Sport quote was; £3000 deposit, £499/month (4.2% APR) and a three year residual of £33000. ( GL has a list of £59500 and had a £9500 discount).

The added advantage of the GL is that it is in a lower VED band (£280/year) (209gm/km) than the Land Rover (£475/year) and the Merc is also much better on fuel.

I do love the Disco 4 myself, and they are meant to be one of the best motors on the market for holding their value. I suspect you must have a good £8-10k minimum left in the disco with that residual.

I've got this but may not be a new a car as you're looking for:-
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/jaguar/x-type/jaguar-x-type-3-0-v6-awd-se-2005-46k-sat-nav-black-leather/1515941

It's not a diesel but looking at how much you're thinking about spending, you'd really need to rack up the miles to come close to the cost of those other cars.
