Panoramic Noise
So I'm getting some pretty heavy wind noise on the highway (even at moderate speeds) from my E91 panoramic sunroof - the leading edge, I'd guess. It doesn't leak (that I know) except under the hair-dryers in a car wash, the force of the air is enough to squeeze a number of drops through.
I found forum references to "exploding" sunroofs but surprisingly lacking in noise complaints. The noise is bad enough that I need to close the screen to comfortably hold a conversation or use the phone! Any thoughts if replacing the rubber seal would fix this? |

I had a similar issue on my E92 and it turned out that one of the plastic tabs that holds the little wind deflector that pops up up had broken off and was allowing air to flow underneath. It made things considerably louder inside the car and you really couldn't see it looking at it form inside the car.

I have the same problem with my panoramic roof. I was thinking it was just the size of the roof... it's huge! I've only had the car for a short time, but I generally keep the screen closed as well, which defeats the purpose of having that big, beautiful glass.
I'll be following this thread... |

My wife's E91 has the same issue. She doesn't hear it because she sits so
close to the steering wheel. Whenever I ride with her, it's all I can hear cause it's just above and in front of my head. I've tried poking my fingers around up there and discovered if I push up a bit in the leading edge of the glass it's quieter. That leads me to believe it may just need adjustment. Maybe a seal? |

I have the same issue on my E91, its on the right front corner. I am afraid to adjust it since it is not leaking.
It is actually quieter when both pannels are popped open. |

I have no idea what a cross bar is, unless you mean two of them 'cross the street from each other, like on a Friday night or something. Ha. I *totally* knew someone would catch that and "yikes" me. haha. Sorry, she's a DD working girl in a shitty climate. I have no choice! Quote:

I think, like with the automatic mirrors, these things need to be serviced from time to time. there are a lot of plastic parts on these cars....a surprising amount, and I have seen first hand that if you get in there a little bit, clean everything and give it a nice treatment of the right grease or proper lube and its good to go for a while....
the winters are also quite harsh with the road salt and grime acting like abrasives and corroding everything in site. My e91 gets more baths than any other car Ive ever had..and Ive managed to put some wonderful light scratches on it this winter....maybe Ill treat it a nice detailing in the spring......I have not done that yet since I bought it..... Oh, back to the sunroof...I digress...mine makes noise too...but not bad....though when the inner roof panel is open you can hear it....maybe Ill get in there myself and practice what I preach! JP |

I had a problem with sunroof noise on my pre-lci 2008 E91 and ultimately got the seals replaced under warranty. I have a thread about that here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=684293 Another thing that you might try though is to do a sunroof reset. I believe that some have reported that this worked for them: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=sunroof+reset and here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=gummi+sunroof (there are TONS of threads on this) There's also a product called "Gummi Pflege" that does a great job of making rubber seals supple. Some have noted that this has helped them with similar problems. |

Panoramic roof is a nonstop pain in the arse. My biggest issue was squeaking from the seals over every little road imperfection. Sport suspension made it worse I assume. Try treating the seals with some conditioner. It might be enough to plump them up and temporarily stop the noise.
