Putting a BOV on something that doesn't need it - or could adversely affect performance - screams RICE.

TO the OP, it's not a negative energy for BOV's.. A BOV on an N54 is all well and fine, but on the New N55 it's not worth the time or effort, because the N55 has a built in Diverter Valve (that cannot be disabled as of yet) there is no need for a BOV.

Adding one could for all purposes be a negative for the performance of the car. Yeah It may sound cool to you, but do you really want to sound cool, and be slower off the line than a car that doesn't have a BOV?

I used love aftermarket BOVs when I had old school Supras and DSMs, the reason everyone upgraded was because stock unit wouldn't hold increased PSI and they sounded "cool". Fast forward 10 years later, stock BOV hold much more pressure now, the sound became annoying. And finally loosing all that air into atmosphere is not exactly helping your engine long term.

I'd put an aftermarket BOV on a car that has a BIGGER Turbo and a standalone that can compensate for lost Air. Or on a stock car with Re-Cerc kit, but then all you get is a bit more noise and a shiny part under your hood.

Art

PS: Best HKS BOV memory from the past, drove by past few girls once, downshifted and one of them screamed, that was funny.

I don't have an N54, I have an N55.

And you're right, the stretching fad has been around a long time... earliest I remember, it was Mexicans stretching them over 14" Daytons on low-riders... at least it was a lot more common then on $50,000 luxury sports cars 20 years ago... that's a strange fad, usually it works the other way around... trickle down... instead of trickle up

When there is a need to

If it's the BOV sound you're looking for, a simple Injen or AFE intake will give you those noises without introducing problems to your charged-air tract.

BTW, stating facts is not "picking" on someone. It's a fact that Hispanics (amongst others - sorry I specifically mentioned Mexicans) were stretching tires over super low offset wheels on low riders long before we were doing it on Euros.

Unless you think there is something negative about being Mexican... I certainly wasn't implying that.

FWIW, I do value aesthetics but I have much more traditional tastes My value for safety also overrides my desire to be trendy.

e90post, where the immature converse, and mature laugh at the stupidity, and are we really discussing who started stretching, and why is this thread still going

I thought I pretty much killed this thread.. (I know I think too highly of myself)

BOV on an N55 is pointless, worthless and if you do it, your doing more harm then good
Get an Injen or AFE intake if you want a BOV sound on your N55
