1.) long(er) crank

Pretty sure it's the fuel pump, will see what the dealer says on Monday. Hopefully the new pump is available now since it's September and the '09s should be rolling off the line, if indeed they have redesigned it.

Update:

ok, picked up the ride last night. they had it for 3 days. they did replace the fuel pump after trying to fix it via a software update (i believe...see invoice below). initial reaction: 1) the car sounds much deeper 2) before i use to be able to hear the turbo spooling around 1500-2200, i have not been able recreate this yet 3) when i floor it, the car does not seem to pick up as fast as before. but all this could just be in my head...also, not sure if i got the lastest and greatest HPFP, no one i talked to could answer if there indeed is a new design (sales or service).
Have you ever been fisted? get ready cuz your about to..My friend,,you have lag

i noticed that too...maybe they do not have any in stock cuz of the '09. i intend to break my fuel pump again anyways. then make sure they put in the re-engineered one.

does the new '09's have a lag? i would think so since they come with the latest software. one thing that might force bmw to prioritize is to ask friends to go test drive the 335i's then complain they feel a lag when they drive it as the main reason they are against purchasing it. hurting their sales might move this up on the list. also, maybe complain to all the car publications. uses the power of media.

Luckily....they didn't update the software. I told them I'd pick it up at 2pm, which somewhat ensured that they wouldn't have enough time to do everything AND update software.

Are the 30.02 suppose to detect tunes now or not compatible? Or is everything pretty much the same as 29.2?

LOL the worst thing about this is that's exactly what has happened to a lot of people. They respond to the recall with a perfectly good pump with no symptoms and the "new" pump fails within a few thousand miles.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

I know you already didnt get your car updated... But they wont unless its needed. BMWNA wont pay for programming unless there is a recall, or the test plan states to do so.

Just PM me next time you have a question like this S

Just had my HPFP replaced today per bulletin. Pump never failed. No software update indicated anywhere. No change in turbo lag. Car runs fine.

From what I was told by the service techs the software is upgraded if required by BMW. According to them if the FP is replaced the software will be updated as well. They said that most of the updates are mandated by gov't regulations to comply with emissions etc... That might be a crock of shit though...

What I can say is that the service bulletin (13-03-08) says nothing about reprogramming, that my invoice says nothing about reprogramming, and that my car still pulls like a locomotive from 1500 rpm on up with the same (very little) lag as it had before. So if they reprogrammed it, even though it says nowhere that they did, I can't tell the difference.

jmsent, you got lucky. on my invoice, it says my car threw up error code 29F2 which they found is related to SIB 12-55-06 and they instructed to check the program and update it. so...i guess it depends on the reason you brought the car in (non-pump related) and your error code (if pump related).

It looks like they replaced with a remanufactured junk (RMFD). Damn, I hesitate to go back to get my replaced. Mine has some symptoms, but it is drivable. I wait until the dust settles.

NO, you don't automatically get a reprogram.

I just had my HPFP recall done this past week. Dropped it in at 9am in the morning, got a call at 1-2pm saying it was done.

No re-program was listed on the sheet, and my car still feels the same.

So I guess I got lucky

I had 2 concerns getting the recall done. One was that I would get a remanufactured unit (I didn't), and that the new one would fail on me (only time would tell). I already have 30K+ miles on my old HPFP and it was still fine.

I just brought my car in for routine service and my SA that there is a campaign to replace the fuel pump. I have an 07 with 28k miles and I've never had any issues with my car. But it's not like we can decline. The SA also said no software updates will be done since my car is running fine.

Not true, I didn't have the recall but was starting to notice a little hesitation on 2nd cranks, etc...so I requested to have the 3rd gen pump installed. the dealer didn't have to do this but since I have a great relationship with them my SA took care of it. the car is 07/07 build so the same progman version 27.2 (i think) is still there. No re-prog at all, talked to the tech who installed it and he said that since this was just a straight swap (no faults) that no update was necessary.

so, I now have a new HPFP w/ original DME software.
