I think majority of guys have something like this:
17x8 w/225/45/17 tires all around or 18x8 w/225/40/18 tires all around A narrow tire would be better in the snow. I ran 225/45/17 for a year and then changed to 215/50/17 and I prefer the later.

There is a slight difference in overall diameter, 1.9% from the calc on the tire forum, I guess that isn't much: 1mph at 60mph

If you have the sport package, you might not be able to fit 16" rims over the brakes. I know that 17" is the minimum for 330 and 335. Check with Gary@Tirerack.com to be sure. You can find his e-mail on the wheel and tire forums.
No one will be able to beat Tirerack's prices for tires mounted on wheels, and they'll be deliver by UPS to your door in about a week. I have sport edition 5 spoke wheels from Tirerack and they are great looking, light and solid. tirerack website will only allow you to pick wheels that fit. As for tires.....are you planning on driving in real snow, or do you live in Toronto/Vancouver. If you live in Toronto or Vancouver and need to drive in cold weather with occasional slush and snow, buy some performance winter tires (Dunlop and Bridgestone are well rated). If you live outside those areas, or plan to drive outside those areas, buy some REAL snow tires - Michelin Xice, Bridgestone Blizzaks or Nokian Hakkapelittas. They won't be as good on dry, cold roads, but you'll be glad you have them in the first 5 minutes of the first snow storm of the season. I run Hakkas on my 335i, skiing in the AB rockies every weekend in winter. Almost all the Subaru and Mitzu guys run Hakkas, as does the head of BMW Canada's driving schools. |

hello all, soon to be the owner of a 2011 335is, would you guys know if 17' rims will clear the brakes, as I have a set of 225-45-17 winter tires that I would like to put them to use.

Stock OEM wheels will fit but if your buying after market, you'll need to be careful - Rial Salerno's or Sport Edition wheels clear the brakes in the 17" fitment - this specific to 335i models. I've had Sport Edition wheels 17" on E90 330xi and on my E93 335i. As for 335is, you'll need to check the brake clearance - don't recall if the new brakes on the 335is are set up the same as a 335i.
