FInally got around to install my AP in Spite of my dwindling obd port and i was scared to death it would lose connection mid update and brick my dme... but it held up and i'm glad it did of course.

First the car started up cold and it started up like it always does with a nice loud initial WHOOOM... then settled down what seemed a little faster than usual. Then out of the dirveway i just let it coast a bit and had to use more brakes than usual - i have a long driveway. IT seems that the AP is already boosting with my foot on the brake ... So i drive out to the highway with my cold car keeping it nice and slow at first barely touching the gas. The feeling is almost raw power if i can describe it that way... like it boosts faster for sure and you can hear the diverter valve when it goes off much louder. SO far so good, my 6AT xdrive e90 feels much more responsive to a little touch of gas. I run 93oct all the time. The shifting is amazing, much nicer than the piggies i've had before. THat was one of the main reasons i picked the flash is to get rid of the pesky shift issues.
Now that i'm on the highway warming up my oil, i decided to hit the gas a little more to see how the boost builds up or at least hear it... you know, it feels like its boosting much earlier / easier than my procede ever did. WIthout logs this would still be seen. But it feels nice, the torque down low is simply amazing. If you are in the right gear, this tune will treat you well. I love it so far. Its nothing compared to my procede / meth but it sure does take care of the headache of installing a piggy and dialing it in. I think my car is still learning the tune as well maybe, becuase it I felt it got a bit faster and more responsive up top as it did bellow the 4k RPM range. It kind of feels a bit tamed if you will above that - more like stock but maybe thats because this isn't a kick in your pants kind of tune... lets be real, its only stage 1.

My mods are intake, charge pipe and catless dp. Those airflow mods may help my tune adapt a bit better than stock cars - maybe?

Just an FYI, this tune will not keep your ses from triggering for a catless dp.

Rob- How much boost does stage 1 aggressive run and are the only requirements to run it safely 93 octane?

I think you need a FMIC to run stage 1+

Hey Slops,

The stage1 calibrations are designed for "stock vehicles". Calibrations for vehicles with upgraded hardware are right around the corner!

Thanks,
Jason

Hey ziominix,

The stage1 Aggressive is around ~14 Psi depending on atmospheric conditions, you are correct the only requirement is premium fuel.

Cheers,
Jason

Ok, thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't sure if specifically 93 octane compared to some states that only have 91 or 92 as premium was needed to avoid problems.

Also a quick question regarding boost tapering at redline as is the common issue with this turbo. Is the car dropping to around 12 psi at redline as other tunes have shown since peak hp is made around 5300-5400 rpm? I was playing around on your site looking at the different dyno graphs but unfortunately boost wasn't logged on them.

We recommend 93 Oct for the Aggressive mapping, but you can run 91 (if that's premium in your area) and do some data logging to assure your fuel can support the aggressive calibration.

Thanks!

Yepper. I have had a couple of customers running the aggressive tune on "good" 91 octane showing good clean logs.

Rob

It's a big "No no" in case the meth tank empties mid-pull (or any meth flow related problems) & then you're running an over aggressive tune. Expect the N55 Maps to eventually be the same as the N54 OTS (Off the Shelf) Maps:
  • Stage 1 - Stock Application
  • Stage 1+ - Requires Aftermarket FMIC
  • Stage 2 - Requires Catless/High Flow Cat Downpipe
  • Stage 2+ - Requires Aftermarket FMIC and DPs
  • Beta Race Maps
  • Beta E30 Maps

Within each map you have the: Drive, Sport & Aggressive (Requires 93 octane & data logging) settings.

It's actually safer if you run your meth system completely independent of your tune, like on an Aquamist HFS-3 that has it's own fail safe & flow sensor.

It'll prob be the same as the COBB Stage 2 and Stage 2+ Maps. The catless "tuner code" will be canceled out by the COBB tune, preventing a CEL from appearing on your dash for this specific mod (a CEL will still appear if you have a boost leak or any other problem). This will NOT allow you to pass an OBD/Emissions Testing.
Or pair up the Cobb with a JB4 for meth integration and let Cobb do all the tuning.

I am not away of any outstanding ROM support. Did you submit your ROM to use via the link here? If your ROM has already been downloaded please upload it to us via the BMW ROM Submission page.

I will be happy to get you going asap. Do you have the "Check for beta firmware" checked under options on AP Manager?

Cheers,
Rob

I uploaded the ROM on Monday I think. I received an email confirmation from "turtle" saying that it was received.

Yes, I have that option checked.

OK, AP is updated and installed. I wasn't going to drive it until tomorrow, but, let's be honest, I was more excited than a friggin kid in a candy store. Props to Rob for busting his ass to get the firmware to me. Now, I am coming from the JB Stage 1, so my that's what my comparisons are based on. Let's get this straight, this shit is smooth. I went straight for the aggressive map and it pulls like a son of a bitch through all of the gears. To me, it pulls harder than the JB. Regarding lag, there is virtually none. You hit the gas and she goes. I experienced significant lag with the JB and the car was sometimes jerky. These issues are non-existent with the AP. All in all, this was money well spent. Like Slops said, the car is so much more responsive now. My other mods are only BMS intake and BMW PE. If you are considering the AP, go for it.

It's like I've fallen in love all over again
