jb4 emmissions testing.

Just took my car up to get tested (2011 335xi) and it failed. I was on map 0 but he asked if I'd unplugged the battery recently or anything.

I changed my map on the way there but wasn't driving long in bypass mode.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Jb4 clears codes... I'm guessing you didn't drive around for 40-80 miles before you took it in. He should have asked you if you cleared any codes recently. In california you'll fail if you clear codes right before the test.

If you have auto clearing on it clears codes automatically. Once it's you switch to map 0, auto clear is off, so you'll have to run in map 0 for about 100 miles so you don't fail for clearing codes. What did the tech say for the reason of failing?

Is there a need to switch maps for inspection? I would assume if u just leave it be and as long as you have no CEL aren't you fine?

wrong in any map mode you will not have access to the obd2 port. thats why you need to be on map 0 for i would say 4 to 5 days before you go for testing so you won't have any readiness issues!

you will have had a few cold starts, and racked up miles over those days

What you experienced is true not just for CA, but also for TX and probably other state's emission tests. A few days prior to getting your emissions tested, put it in map 0, and drive it around. If you have cleared codes immediately prior to an emissions test, the machine detects that. The assumption is that the codes were cleared to cover up a problem. Think about it. If you could clear codes and then pass an emissions test, everyone with a crappy car would go buy an OBDII tool to clear the codes.
