Raise boost, raise timing until detonation signs

I suppose Cobb is really close to launch the new maps for AccessPort, they usually make big fat announcements all at once.

I think what Alpine_B3 was asking was since it's load targeting how do set a particular boost/timing target. I think that's why ATP has taken so long, so they could find a way to work around that and make sure it works like it's supposed to. Until Cobb chimes in, or someone gets their car ATP tuned we won't know for sure how it works.

I was getting some sputtering when I was powering up. Thought it was having too much torque to the wheels (winter + summer RFTs = possible traction issues). Went on a spirited drive with my friends on Saturday night and got the CEL warning on my dash. Plugged the Cobb in and ran the code, came back telling me it was a misfire. Since my car has 44k miles on it, it's about time for me to do spark plugs on my car anyway. Just picked up 6 spark plugs from autohausaz.com for $86 shipped to MD.

Yes, that was indeed my point.

I observed that when running stage 2 + FMIC aggressive in extremely low temperatures (up to minus 10 degrees Celsius), the car was also boosting up to 18.5psi which - if it was load targeting only - it would not have done, as the load target would then be so high that under normal summer temperatures you would need more than 22psi to reach it (which is impossible with the stock turbos).

Therefor, the mechanics at least of the stage 2 maps is not based on load targeting only but also on boost targeting (which I believe in another thread was already confirmed when I ask the same question). However, the manual available on their website only mentions load targeting...

In particular in view of maps for bigger turbos I think that is quite an important distinction.

Hey guys, i am sure you have seen this, but if you haven't, check this out. If you are getting misfires, COBB has put out DIY misfire diagnostic. i would do this before you change out your spark plugs. it maybe a coil.

Check out Episode #2.

very cool, thank you.

General question, is it typical for timing to be pulled on 1 or 2 cylinders? it looks like it isn't much, just curious if that's normal: Cyl 5 sees up to -3, cyl 6 is -3.8.

You really need to post up a log to get some accurate feedback.

When you see that pull is it mid pull? Near redline? Is timing advancing and then all of a sudden pulls back?

I'll redo a fourth gear pull and post a better log in the morning. Just making sure everything looks good before I throw on down pipes and a front mount.

If you have enough road to do a 4th gear pull, you might as well do 3rd into 4th which would then show even more.

Its still load-targeting but boost will be capped, i think what they did is set the max load targets in difficult conditions at 18.5psi, and then maybe the option of allowing the car to go over load targets in better conditions(since boost wouldnt change) So its both actually..lol

I'll do that, I did a couple 3rd gear pulls on the way to work and no timing was pulled today... interesting. During lunch I'll do the 3rd into 4th gear and post that.

Cobb doesn't feature meth integration. However, any of the quality meth kits will either come with or can integrate a failsafe. Right now, there's no real reason to run meth on any of Cobbs publicly available off the shelf maps.

If the logs where you pulled timing were taken immediately after switching maps or flashing to stage 1 then that would explain the timing pulls. The DME needs a little time to adapt to the tune and after a little driving it smooths out.

That must have been it. I just switched between stg1 stock throttle to stg1 linear and did the logging just after that. That's a good to know.

Quick question: There's the option in the Access Port to reset the ECU adaptations. Does it do that automatically each time another map is selected, or is it necessary to explicitly do it by selecting this option in the AP menu?
