328i Detail Addict exhaust

Updated: 3/23/12

Updated: 3/18/12

Not the best sounding and hand held, since it was just me doing it by myself. At 5:30 (going up a hill) at 7:29 a bit of freeway driving at 65mph mostly.

3/13/12

Oright oright oriiiight, well folks. This is Detail Addict's mid-pipe set up of 3 inch diameter running from the bolt-on headers, no resonator, no 2ndary cat to a free flowing Magnaflow muffler. Contact Leo, to get your own set up going.

He sells the pipes but you can weld on any type of muffler you choose. Just so happens he chose Magnaflow which is PRETTY loud! It vibrates my center console and trim on my car but I reduce that by pushing it in and it's all good.

The first hour driving for 30 miles, my wife immediately knows that it's gotten louder, much louder than my Eisenmann race full exhaust. Low end torque has much more growl but lacks in pushing the car forward a bit. It's like the BMW lag just got longer. I assume it's because from a lack of back pressure? Since the exhaust system is pretty much a straight pipe, free flow? The lag is noticeable at stop/go traffic. At cruising, it's about the same.

I haven't driven aggressive with it yet because of the wife and baby inside but suggestion guys to what kind of videos you want, drive by's, low/high rev's etc.

The car is running on stock intake, K&N filter, charcoal filter. Tomorrow the Gruppe-M replica intake will be back on. So the cone filter will make this bad boy even louder. Stay tuned!

Give love to the 328i!

i like your previous setup bro, more refine exhaust sound, more BMW like. but if you really like something louder then props to you.

Before i had my exhaust installed, my muffler was off for a day. It was really loud but i noticed the absence of torque.

Yeah it's actually is too loud for me and I like loud, what I think I'll end up doing is welding back my Eisenmann race muffler but keeping the new pipes. Refined noise and get my low end torque back.

the magnaflow might be too much free-flowing.....
its not worth to lose that lowend torque for sound. i bet it seems like the loudness is there but your car feels heavier.
especially when youre cruisin

I'll drive it for a couple more days and find out so far I'm enjoying the loud for a bit.

It sounds quite aggressive Jason. this setup has a bit of high-pitch tone, which is not my personal preference though.

I love your previous Eisenmann setup man. Sounds clean, deep, & aggressive.

Did you run the D.A. pipe with the Eisenmann race rear muffler?

I agree, maybe give it a cpl days to break in etc, but id prob end up going with the eisanmann rear and the new mids. I think that magnaflow might be a little to free flowing and switching back might help get you some back pressure back.

wow. thanks for sharing. I wonder how much of a difference in sound there is between this and PE. Also, is there room to add any glass packs for more backpressure and noise reduction?

*Edit

You bought the proto-type didn't you? Also, did you say you have headers on?

I think if you can find a glass pack thats the same diameter as the pipes you'll be alright, anything bigger than 3.5inch is a risk I think. Headers are on. We added my cone intake, the lag and back pressure has reduced a lot, it feels much better at stop/go traffic. More videos this weekend, hurry up get your tips!

The prototype is on for now to see if I want this set up or use my eisenmann race muffler but final, it will be the new and polished pipes.

Whoa, so you are completely cat-less then???.....niiiiiice. I just sent the money to cyba for my tips. I hope they will arrive by next weekend so he can finish my set up. Leo is one of the best vendors I have ever dealt with in terms of service. Prompt, kind, reliable, skilled and great prices.

As for your set up. The proto-type is using the 12198 muffler which is 2.5" outlets. I read a thread where someone was saying that the larger diameter would aversely affect back pressure. I opted for the magnaflow with 2.25" outlets [12278]. I would have taken a 2" option if it was available. The difference other than outlet size is the overall length and although Leo suggested to get the 12198 because of the limited space I asked him to try to make it work with my larger muffler. Hopefully the choice will pay off.

Your a foo for that polished set up...I don't even want to ask how much it costed to do that. His work is boss though.

Since LEDs draw less electrical current than the halogen bulbs that you've replaced -- the car sends a series of signal to check to see if anything is there thus resulting in the flashes.

Edit: My guess would be that the "lag" is from the loss of back pressure which led me away from doing a muffler delete. Although it reduces a bit of weight, I'm not willing to compromise on what our cars already lack just for a little bit of noise. Although I would definitely consider getting this whole system one day given he doesn't sell it

I'll drive around as soon as my wife gets back from her haircut, I gotta babysit in the mean time.

It drives veeeery good, the car has adapted to it, the intake, exhaust, throttle response all feels solid now.

It's the ST V1 coilover suspension. It rides very well, I've had it for 3 weeks and after alignment last week, it feels even better than non-sport susp. You get the height adjustment that you want, the looks and the performance you've been waiting to have! No one has complained about how it rides from babies to old folks, car and non-car enthusiasts.
