Thinking about getting the JB4 chip
I was reading about the JB4 chip and am strongly considering getting it now. Need some opinions before I get it though. The car is 2007 335xi Automatic, with that being said I tend to drive around a lot for work (real estate agent) which probably equals around 250-500 miles a week and the 335 is my daily driver. Essentially I want to know is it going to cause problems for down the road (or immediately) that will affect me being able to drive the car for work? I want some more power but still want it to be practical as a DD, just trying to get some opinions or suggestions here

Plugs, coils. Typically need to be changed once installing the jb4. Other than that install and let her rip.

Thank you! I was thinking about doing my plugs and coils soon anyway as well as a walnut blast and then installing it. Seems like its a nice little boost without going over board

Did it this weekend, along with the Alpina transmission flash. No big issues but like people said above, it did bring out the weak points (spark plugs/coils). A bit of misfire above 4k-ish RPM. Changing them out this weekend.

Like everyone said, you'll need to replace your spark plugs & coils, but BMS has the plug kit cheaper than you'll find more than likely.
It's also a nice time to change your oil & clean your valves as you will see, it's amazing how you car goes from 335i to sub M3. Yours being a 2007, you may also want to add an oil cooler unless you have the sport package bc then you have one. |

Regardless of tune you will need new spark plugs unless the ones in your vehicle have less then 20,000 miles on them. Typical life of a tuned spark plug is 25K miles.
The only other oddities that may arise with a tune depend on how well your vehicle has been maintained and more specifically how old the hardware is. Typical points of weakness are coil packs, injectors, and fuel pump. If those are recent revision you should be good to go. Only thing to really do is put a tune on and see what happens. It will typically throw a code if there is a weak point in the system that needs to be updated/fixed before enjoying the tune fully. This last bit is rare but should be noted, especially on a vehicle with some good mileage from 2007. In regards to commuting and or driving around with clients: A tuned vehicle is just as practical as stock when you drive normally. Driving around town and casually the car will perform and respond the same. It's only at heavy throttle that the car will have more power. |

Might also want to change the charge pipe. I've been avoiding pushing it too hard until I can swap mine in, since I don't want to blow the charge pipe on my DD. Another nice thing is that my gas mileage has been mostly unchanged in normal driving.

OP JB4 is the most popular tune for your car and has been proven to work safely by thousands of users. it does a great job making your car a lot more fun to drive.
Regardless of which tune you use, more power will expose your car's weak components ( usually spark plugs and ignition coil) ... other than weak components your car should run fine as long as you use the maps recommended for your mods and fuel Quote:

The VRSF and ER CP can be had for a fair price and you already have the tial which likely costs more then the pipe itself. Also you don't want to lose that C clip, sometimes when the pipes blow the C clip falls off the car and onto the road to never be found again. The C Clips are nearly impossible to come by as the dealer won't sell it individually, you'd need to buy a new charge pipe to get one. Also as Mike said, your car will still be off the road as you wait for the new pipe and overnight shipping is expensive. If that pipe blows on a Friday Night, you will have to wait until Tuesday to get a pipe in a worst case scenario. Just some food for thought. I've had soooo many customers procrastinate on this and wish they just got it as it breaks when they least expect it. |

Not that I plan to find out myself, but what actually happens when you break the charge pipe? Is it still driveable, with reduced power or something? Can it cause any other issues?
