Can anyone convince me to add 1500 eur for the HK? Is the system so much better it's worth the money? ... or the HiFi system is so mediocre that an upgrade is virtually mandatory? I have a HK system at home, and consider myself a bit into music, but for 1500 eur... |

I would double-check - the base Stereo was always sold in the EU even when it wasn't available in the US (2006-2009, Stereo in the US was almost impossible, but was everywhere in the EU).

If you are willing to upgrade then don't get it. The HiFi is not standard in the Euro 3-Series, AFAIK. |

My dealer just got back to me and confirmed that the HiFi option (676) is not standard in Europe , i.e. the Sept changes apply only to the US market. I hope that we at least get the new iPod Out functionality for fancier iPod controls.
Yes, the car will be leased so only OEM, but it's interesting that you mention that the decision doesn't have anything with the costs, since (IMHO) the equipment is quite pricey (not even to mention the Individual system option for around €3k). So, now I have three possibilities: 1) The base system, 0 eur 2) Get the HiFi for 800+tax eur 3) Go for the HK system for 1500+tax eur will have to think carefully... in case of 3) i'd have to remove some other things like alarm, etc. to maintain the same target price of the car. I could survive the price of 2) without removing other options but I am not sure is it worth since it adds only 2 speakers and a subwoofer (afaik). I really envy you guys on the other side of the pond, not only you get more for less money, but also later pay 50% less for fuel . Last edited by themaster; 11-08-2010 at 03:34 PM.. Reason: grammar |

It's NOT base Stereo - it's HiFi. The worst complaints are about a system you don't have... You have a 6-channel amp and 8" woofers and 1" tweeters. They lack them all...

When you say HiFi I say it came standard in my car or in other words I didn't opt for it. Is there another stereo available that would be considered more base than this in an e90 (335d) produced in October 2011?

Don't be unnecessarily US-centric, or October- production centric, or cssnms-centric. The E90 has had at least three levels of audio in it's global production, and at various times each of them has been available in every market. Base Stereo, HiFi, and Top HiFi are not my terms - they are BMW terms. They are all in production, even if the defaults just changed for the US market.
I am glad you like your stereo - just be aware that your HiFi audio system is very different from the base Stereo system that gets the worst criticism. Although I had HiFi, and I upgraded Quote:

Thanks for the information... I think I'll go for the HiFi (€800), since HK is more than €1500, and it can't be that bad (for the price difference I'd rather buy the Bluetooth system for mobile phones).
I have heard several times the HiFi in a 6-series (E63) and it's just fine. I don't know is it exactly the same system though. |

OK guys....quick question....I'm in the process of ordering my 2011 335i x-drive and want to know which system I should pick. The stock HiFi system or the upgraded HK Sound System? By the way....I already have the BSW stage 1 kit to upgrade the base sound system. It comes with 4 tweeters and 4 midrange speakers and seem very well made. Should I spend the additional $875 (I can probably get it a little less) for the HK system and use the BSW stage 1 kit to upgrade that setup or just stay with the stock HiFi system and use the BSW stage 1 kit to upgrade that one?
Please advise, Mark Last edited by MJR63; 11-24-2010 at 06:25 PM.. |

It depends what your overall goal is with the car in the future. Most seem perfectly content with the L7 (HK) system but the base (HiFi) system provides an easier upgrade path if you eventually plan to use aftermarket amplifiers.
The BSW Stage 1 system is an effective, drop-in upgrade for either the base (HiFi) or HK system. The HK option will also give you some DSP capabilities, a 7-band EQ and better under-seat midbass drivers. |
