Where's all the meets?!?

Where are all the meets? I see a lot of them in other regions in the the world. I think it would be a lot of fun to get together with some other Bimmers to check out each other's cars, and BS. I hope I didn't just volunteer myself to do this. Any volunteers???

This weekend is booked out for me DIY'ing But I'm not a million miles from Cambridshire, in Bucks. Nothing to say we can't have some mini-meets though.

UK1 was on 21 April 2006 at Donington with a futile race to get to a pub before they up and quit serving before scaring half of Melbourne on the way to an Indian curry.

UK2 was on 23 September 2006 at Donington. Had a barbeque, too. A crazy split drive to Belvoir (pronounce bee vor) Castle only to find it closed for a wedding (none in our party, though).

UK3 was held on 17-18 March 2007, again at Donington. Had another barbeque, mad dash through the south part of the Peaks District. A few, six to be exact, stayed overnight in Hilton before continuing the escapades on Sunday.

Hi.

As SoYank has mentioned, we have organised 3 meets so far.

As the peer-proclaimed UK meets organiser, I can tell you that it is not an easy job!

Without the help of several able & proficient members, all of whom I think of as good friends now, I can tell you that a difficult job would be made a hell of a lot harder.

Take the likes of Floyd (SoYank) who has organised the excellent plate covers & BBQ for UK2 & 3; Matt (mjh93sa) who I now consider to be the official UK Meets photographer and Paul (beauforty) who generally acts as a 'drag queen' and completely unofficial UK mods expert!

We are lucky in that we have a lot of 'different' members who turn up to the meets, all with varying views & experiences of their cars. It all makes for a very interesting day of talking & driving!

I can definitely say that anyone wanting to come to the meets will learn a lot more about the car, from the people who 'live' with their cars, rather than from the 'stealers' who sell them.

Anyway, if you are interested in organising a meet, then you have my full support.

All the best.

Viv

The meets tend to run to a pretty consistent framework:
  1. Paul (Beaforty aka modfather aka sigforty etc etc) throws up a post suggesting we get our collective backsides in gear and organise the next meet.
  2. After kicking around various locations we decide that Donington worked so well the last time we'll try it again.
  3. Various dates get kicked around until we find one that suits the most people.
  4. Viv (vivekk aka traffic warden) gets fed up of all the discussion and books up a hotel.
  5. We turn up at Donington and commandeer a section of carpark which Viv then patrols to see off all other marques.
  6. Paddy 'phones to say he's just leaving Manchester. He then shows up in a mathematically impossible time.
  7. Bit of food from the BBQ and a decent drive before a meal in the evening.
  8. As has been metioned we also added an overnight stay to the last meet so that we could have a couple of drinks and make more of the whole thing. It also gave Paul the chance to try his luck with a few nonagenarians.
  9. For the overnighting members another spirited drive before snow and rain call a halt to the fun.
  10. Post up all the photos and wait for Viv to work his magic with whatever video footage he can get his hands on.

Judging by the glacial pace that we all manage to work through this at it could be another 4~6 months to the next meet
