sorry to hear that. I saw 10 accidents on the meadow brook parkway yesterday. One happened in the right lane as I watched..a girl rear ended an suv and all I see is his rear bumper coming off and as that is happening the suv behind hit his brakes hard, turn sideways and starts sliding towards me because im slowing down as well. I sort of stepped on the gas and jumped into the left lane and this suv winds up hitting the car in front of me.

I got highbeamed, cursed, got the finger, honked at. Even when I put the car sideways and blocked traffic for a few minutes while trying to get her straight again.

I hate Merrick Road on Long Island. Thing has a such a god damn crown that any input of the gas, wether it be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, would make the nose want to pivot 90 degrees left and sit the ass in the gutter.

Sunrise Highway was no better...I was having fun switching between DTC and DSC to get the car moving...I would try to get a good head of steam going before going up a hill...a few times I would feel the car start to lose grip and I would just start praying....please dont let me stop and slide backwards.
guess im used to syracuse. this weather is nothing compared to what you have to deal with daily there. eitherway it does suck. But if I was living there, i wouldn't get a BMW anyways sicne it sucks in these weather. I've been on fully iced roads in michigans before and my S60 couldn't stop but i had to floor it and pass the intersection

honestly, i see all you guys who are driving around in SUMMER TIRES. maybe if you had winter tires you wouldnt have issues. i dont have an XI but my car was perfect with winter tires with some sandbags in the trunk. invest in them if you are going to have a car in the northeast. to pete, sorry man, that sucks, but like i said, get some winter tires. blizzaks are awesome on ice from what i hear, dunlop winter sports are amazing in snow and dry conditions...i love mine.

XI or I is not going to make any difference on a sheet of ice. Those days are the days you bring out the beater car in case anything bad happens. This ice storm screwed over a lot of people I saw many cars just stranded and abandoned on the side of the road.

No problems other than avoiding other drivers skidding. Even the frozen "mush" between lanes wasn't a problem for the xi with snow/ice tires. I had to keep checking my speed because I didn't want to get too overconfidant.

And 3P3T5Gi, I am glad you weren't hurt. Hope your car gets fixed soon.

Sorry to hear about your problem!

Just drive safe out there. Honestly, it doesn't matter if you have i or xi or any AWD/4WD vehicle (although xi/awd/4wd/winter tires will be better in this weather condition). Ice is ice and once you get on it, you will have no control, especially black ice where it's not noticeable. I was driving my Navigator today and missed my turn and stepped on the brake with a little more force then usual and the back of my truck broke loose. Lucky for traction control and the winter tires though, it did help, but the truck still slid a little and I was only going around 10-15mph.

Just drive safely out there guys.

Even in my Navigator, I was only driving around 40-50mph yesterday.

wow thats some crazy shit. and just to let you know insurance companies love aftermarket parts cuz they are cheaper than OEM. when i mean aftermarket i dont mean ACS, i mean like some company that makes OEM knock offs....unless you go to a BMW dealer, your not getting OEM shit. trust me. good luck man. hopefully everything works out for you in the end.

That sucks..sorry to hear! I had summers on my E92 yest. and it was a nightmare. Was thinking about abandoning the car at a mall after driving a mile after work. Ended up going about 20-30 mph the entire way home. Ppl were pretty understanding though, no fingers or passing on the left. Didn't get stuck until I drove into my building's lot :| They never plow that $hit! I'd have gotten winters back in Dec. but that $ got spent repairing what the psycho ex did...
