Guys, there is a reason they break people up into the "spirited" groups and those that want more of just a brisk leisurely drive. I would suggest for those of you wanting to not go quite as quick go in one of the other groups, I really think you would have a lot of fun in those. Again though, its pretty much how these drives are, a couple faster groups, and then those that want to enjoy the scenery a bit more.
Alfred, I thought that's why you got the JB3, to go FAST?!? The gravel did suck, I just don't care about the rocks much since the front end of my car is beat up so much already, but if not I woulda been pretty pissed about it. It is the one problem with the spring drive, a lot of the sand from the winter is still on the roads. Poor Dan in his Z3 was behind me for a stretch, and I know my 275 were kicking up some nasty stuff behind me, even though I was trying hard not to cross over the center or sides. Overall I thought it was a pretty fun drive, that did have a few organizational issues, especially after the first stop and everyone piled into "A" group. I counted 17 cars in that group at that time even though there were supposed to be 12 in each. |

Group C kept jumping in front of Group B and they were slowing us down. They got all pissed off at us for passing them when they were in the wrong from the get go. I think our leader finally said screw it and jumped in front of all the groups so we didn't get screwed again.

Yeah, well my paint is not OEM on my hood....or my bumper....or my front drivers fender....or my rear drivers side fender....
The aftermarket paint just hasn't held up to my style of driving very well. I figure one of these days I will get it repainted or get and m-tech bumper. |

Sorry to hear about the accident in the parking lot. I didn't even realize it happened until now. My friend and I were commenting on how leaving the parking lots was a complete clusterf*ck. Hopefully next time, we can leave in an orderly fashion and actually give people a chance to get out of their parking spots. I know the groups were supposed to leave in 5 minute intervals, but it seemed to be one mass exodus each time.
Which group were people driving careless? I was in the A group each time until Fraser and didn't see anything that was out of control. All the passing I saw was in designated zones. After Fraser, I followed Gary, the organizer, and a Z3 over Trail Ridge Road which was an adventure unto itself. I had a bit of debris kicked up onto my car as well a few times. Hopefully there are no serious paint chips, but I should really just get a clear bra.

Yeah, I didn't realize it was under construction in various spots. The heavy rain didn't help either. I just wanted a shorter route back to Fort Collins so I could drop my friend off.

It was about 350miles for me RT from my condo near Centennial airport and back...YMMV.
BTW, that's even shorter than normal, because normally they take 287 up to Laramie, and then some other roads back down to Walden. |

If anyone really wants a driver's road that is decently close to Denver, drive up to Lyons via I-25/hwy 7 and then take the Peak to Peak hwy 72/119 down to Central City. Golden Gate Canyon is another good one, and so is is the back way up to Mt. Evans/Echo Lake over Squaw Pass (my personal favorite). |

I have driven hwy 7 and 72 before which was a lot of fun. I'll have to check out the other routes sometime.

I enjoyed the drive and will do it again.
I don't think the parking lot issues and group separation were the club's fault and I don't really have a solution on how they could be fixed next time without making the rules too strict. It would take a lot of the fun out of it if someone was there telling everyone what group they should be in and then determining the order of that group. Plus all the cars may have overwhelmed the existing process, too many E9X's. Most people (myself included) were very eager to get out on the road and didn't want to get stuck behind a slow driver or get left behind w/o knowing the way. The sand on the road was a bummer, but no way to avoid that, most lightly traveled mtn roads are the same in the spring. With sticky tires and high speeds you have to keep your distance. The speeds were faster than expected, but I was comfortable with that. |
