35 vs. 50 tint on Black/Black car

Hey everyone. I'm about to get my windows tinted. I have a jet black, black leather interior car. I can't find any consistent agreement on how that affects the tinting.

I'm not looking for invisibility. I'd prefer people be able to see into the car. Mostly, I'm wanting heat reduction, but also some aesthetic... okay and maybe a little privacy.

At night, does every tint basically black out the windows with the black interior?
If I have my sunroof visor open all the time, will that lighten the appearance of the 35s a bit?

Where I live we have permanent snow for 4 months of the year. This makes daytime conditions very bright, and makes night time conditions very "twilight". I'm guessing this would kill the 50.

The last thing is that the film they have uses light reduction as its heat rejection. So the 35 will block more than the 50.

I really thought there was a way I could make 50 work and still get everything I wanted, but it will probably just be too light. After writing this out I think I should probably be going with the 35.

Not even worth it IMO. Do 15%/20% or skip it.

Go 35 if worried about legality

I did in front and in light conditions, its very very mild tint. My rears are 20 and while i like it, i wish i went darker in front for the privacy. Like the other member said, 50 is useless for privacy function.

Would recommend ceramic tint if its heat rejection you're going for.

In general, most of the other tints can block the UV rays, protecting your interior so I highly recommend it.

I run Suntek Carbon film.

I've got a black on black like you. 20% around and 50% on the front. It seems dark at first but you get used to it and doesn't affect night visibility. I live in the middle of the woods. 20% is the minimum required if you want privacy. Plus, I still wear my Oakleys in the day, rated at 10%. 35% or anything higher, you'll still be able to see through relatively easy.

50%. Too me, it still keeps it looking sporty, and classy.

Here is a visual aid of 35%. I had 20% on but with the 100+ miles I put on her a day I was hassled to much by the man so I had her done in 35%. 50% is just a waste of money you might as well leave it as is in that case.

35% is perfect if you have dark interior because it makes the tint look like 20%. If you go with 20% with dark interior you're pretty much rocking limo tint. Good luck with that. I use 20% on the rear window and 35% on the side windows (E90) and cops don't bust my chops even living in Cali.

Great comments everyone thank you.

I booked my appointment I'm a few weeks out. I'm going 35 around and no windshield. I was thinking maybe 50 on the windshield but I haven't decided.

I wear glasses so I can't get sunglasses on often in the car and even a 50 that might remove glare or snowblind white would be very nice but I need to find out how much of a difference that will really make.

Actually, 50% or even 70% makes a large difference in appearance and heat reduction.

A lot of people may think its not worth it, but in Canada BC any sort of tint in the front windows are illegal. I got ticketed for a 50% tint twice in 1 month in my previous car. About to get a 70% tint in the front just to slightly get rid of the fish bowl effect and reduce heat in summer.

With regards to this, would ceramic tint on the front windows and darker tint on the rear windows look good????

BTW what colour car do you have???

My car is black, rear being darker is never as nice as an even tint all around but less than 50% tint in the rear is useless for me as I use the tint to block those pickup drivers with bright ass HID's at night.

So 70% front + 35% rear is what I;m going for.

35% percent here, black on black. IMO 35% is just right, looks classy with being over the top dark and you can still see out the windows at night.

35 percent front, back and rear windows (no windshield, thus the transparency from light coming from front but not rear) on SGM with black interior on a cloudy day:

I have 20 all around on black interior and don't regret it a bit, sometimes night visibility is rough but I just roll down the windows. If you are worried about cops i'd go 35, if you want it to look the best go 20 or 15 and I wouldn't consider 50 just because the difference is so minimal.

If you're worried about the legal aspect, visit your state's DMV site and search for "Vehicle Sun-Shading Medical Authorization" form and a "Sun-Shading Medical Authorization Application." This allows me to run 35% all-around instead of 35%(R)/50%(F).

I have mine tinted darker then you want (18%) but I did do the windshield in a 70%. Its suntek CXP and has helped out A LOT in the heat. Living in FL it gets a little hot, and the windshield made a night and day difference and doesnt effect visibility.
