MPG dropping instantly

my mpg has always been 20-21 mpg. everytime i stop to refuel i always restart the consumption but this time after leaving i averaged about 25mpg. went to the store and when i went back in and start the car the mpg came up as 6.0 . found it odd restarted it and drove it around moderately. But it went from 21 19 17 15 14 10 and stops at 6.0 . Have you guys find a solution to this?? Thanks for the help!!

The mpg between the two starts - 6 mpg - was taken as the new normal.
Now, if you had gotten gas, and then gotten onto the freeway and drove for a while at seady 60 or so and gotten off and stopped/started, it would have said 30 mpg or so.

Thanks for the reply but, it usually stays at the same mpg number. it changes maybe every 2-3minute but like i said before ive never seen it change instantly . It would drop from 20mpg -10mpg in a matter of 10 seconds.
please correct me if im over reacting to this or if this is normal. Thanks

I think it's normal behavior; no need to worry. It's the restart that caused the change IMO. It will probably go back up to 21, slowly.
