Looks like we're in the hands of BMW then. They must know what the problem is because surely the fault is quite repeatable? The two main problems I am aware of with my car are as follows:-

1. Poor throttle response with almost no response between 10 - 20% throttle.
2. Lumpy power delivery between 1500 and 2000 rpm.

I must admit that the lumpy power delivery is only quite suttle most of the time but surely these faults should be pretty quick to diagnose by the technical guys at BMW? Reports of them not even knowing how to fix this is quite worrying I must admit.

Just out of curiosity has anyone had their 320i on a dyno? I'd love to see the true power curve and top bhp / torque for that matter! I'd be very suprised if my ED engine is really producing 170hp at the moment.

Just been advised my 320i is subject to a recall for the Injectors (ref 0013780100). BMW will now replace all 4. They are still vague about the software upgrade but my gear change indicator has disappeared as well so I am going to push for that to sort this out and hopefully improve the low speed pull. Sounds like we may be starting to get through. See how it runs after.

Regarding the power does go OK once you get the revs up over 3K. A lot more top end than my E46 (143bhp) but less low down torque. Bit unfair comparing with a Civic R (30bhp more and 300 kilos less weight). Still recon could get close to my fuel consumption of 32-33 in a Civic though driven the same way despite what the official stats say!

It needs to loosen up yet. Mine felt like it had asthma for the first 2-3K or so. It now feels like it's producing what it should (I've done 7.8K).

Thanks for the ref on the recall. Will check with my dealer. How were you advised - letter or phone? BTW I'll keep my eyes peeled for you around the Soton area - not seen many other M Sports around here yet (stacks in Pompey though).

Take your word for it - try to avoid Pompey if I can! Got a call from supplying dealer Sytner Coventry soon after another letter E-Mail from BMW Customer Service denying there was a problem. Scothalls said they were aware of the recall when I rang them but I doubt it as they had not pre-ordered the injectors.

Hi Bumps!

Yes you could have a point with the loosening up thing. At only 1300 miles it might still be a bit tight so to speak.

Does this recall (0013780100) apply to all 320i's? Also is there any online page we can visit to see details of this?

Interesting....were you contacted by BMW/your dealer? Or did this just crop up when you were talking to them.....would be useful to know....

I was only thinking yesterday that, in view of E92's posting stating that BMW basically don't know what to do, why bother taking my car in again.....it just comes across as the dealers being told to have a go with this or that and see if the customer accepts...we know it doesnt solve it but maybe it will keep them quiet....

Hi all,

After driving my new car for a few days now I'd say that the most noticable thing is the very slow throttle response at low revs (well low throttle position i mean).

I really notice it when turning corners. I put it into second and brake for the corner and then just as I'm exiting the corner give it a bit of gas to slowly pull me out. The thing is I get that nothing, nothing, nothing and then something sort of response from the throttle which leads to very unsmooth cornering!!

Is this a well known symptom with the 320 engine or do you think this may be unrelated and may just be a fault with my car in particular?

Called my dealer ref the recall. It is inapplicable to my car according to the system, so is it technically something else? Spoke to the service manager whom I know well, and he's open minded on the issue. Suspect they've seen others with the same issue though by now, as he knew about the stuttering. My probs aren't bad at the moment (fingers crossed) so I'll see where we stand next time it goes in for a service or whatever. The service manager said they'll quite happily do what they can as and when it's needed. Strange because apart from the slight stutter the car's running better than ever (wish there was a superstitious smilie!!)

Dealer said the recall was applicable to E92s and implied that replacing all injectors may cure my hesitation at low revs but vague as usual and failed to allow the time to complete the work (or the injectors hadn't turned up) so I have to book it in for a day.

My car was supplied via Sytner Coventry and they informed me of the recall by phone. I now use Scothalls Southampton who agreed to the recall after I rang them. I had kicked off with customer service following them sending out a feedback form after my car was trailored off for the third time prior to this (twice due to injector failures once due to the steering problem). I was in the middle of dealing with their denials there was a problem and being told not to believe all I read in Internet Forums

Still no news from customer services, so resent email asking for response....

Its great isnt it that we shouldn't believe Internet forums, but should take everything Cust. Services say as "gospel"...yeah right!!!

This is REALLY pissing me off now......

PS Is it me, or has the first post on this thread (which explains what its here for) disappeared???

guys,

my 320 m sport has been recalled. Dealer (Bowker Preston) rang to say they would need the car for two hours to replace all injectors. Will either pick the car up and leave me with something to play with (335d) or I can drop it off. Mine is going in next saturday.

Recall or no recall, that is the question.
