I read a post recently which suggested that dealerships can trace via the car's ecu if it has been putting out bhp and torque figures above the stock settings and if so they void the warranty.
Can anyone validate or disprove this? If it is correct, it will definitely put me off installing a tune during the warranty period.

You have nothing to worry about... There was a thread about this a long time ago...

I'm about to receive my Cobb for our 335i E93. I can't really spend more time and money on upgrades, so all we have is a dual cone intake and the tune.

Would I blow my engine trying out stage 2 maps with just a DCI?

I also plan on doing some E85 mixes. But how well does our fuel system react to that kind of fuel? It's not going to deteriorate anything, right?

Thanks,

S2+ requires basically FBO

S1+ needs an intercooler above what you have.
Add some E85 and run S1+... the downside is your intercooler is crap which means IATs will rise very fast (~30F within a run) and you will lose topend power since you will be pulling timing. Basically the tune won't be running at its full potential. and It won't be consistent run after run because of that reason.

IF you are going to add significant amount of E85 to clean up timing, then you have to change the scalar in ATR (which you downlaod from COBBs website)

You will not blow your car up...

3 weeks ago:

my car vs my friends JB4 G5 car:
Same mods, same amount of E85 mixed in, same transmission, both on meth and FBO.

We both had terrible traction:
JB G5 12.9 115
COBB E50 12.5 @119

(btw he already sold his JB4 G5, I sold it for him here, search through my recent threads , His running COBB now, soon to be protuned by PTF)

Once you want to go All in on power, a JB car cannot match a COBB custom tuned car.
Why?
because once you maxed out your turbos on stock timing on a JB car that's it. With COBB you can always advance timing and squeeze more

and anyway when you want to tune aggressively even with the newest G5, Terry recommends you run a base flash... you need aCOBB to do it. at that point what is the G5? a meth and boost controller..

G5 will offer isolated boost control. I haven't tried it myself to be honest. But i've heard good things about it.

If you are sure all you want to do is DCI and FMIC, then there is no need to upgrade. But if you;re planning on going with E85, then FBO, may be meth then get the G5.

This is how tune comparisons should be done. Same car and same or very similar conditions.

Something wrong if a Cobb E30 map is only trapping 108. Did you ever log the car? All the Cobb E30 maps I've seen at the strip have been 115-119

I have the G5 iso and its leaps and bounds much smoother than before when it was non isolated...JB4 can change maps on fly via steering wheel..and auto tune to your mods..the only thing Cobb has is ability to control fuel trims and AFR's a little better..you will need a Cobb to run BMS's flash when you approach the 500hp mark..if you are just doing a DCI I would get a JB4 G5 and DCI let the JB4 auto tune to your mods, fuel and weather conditions..plus you can gauge hijack and do little cool things that Cobb doesn't have..all while being 400 less..hope this helps..

FYI I trapped 112 on s2+ agg with no meth (obviously) on a 100F day. My boost solenoid were a week away from giving up so I was underboosting over 5000 ...

You cannot really compare your full bolt on light 3-series rwd times to his heavy 535xi with not many mods, can you? This is why comparing tunes in one car is the way to compare.

Those traps make sense then, I didn't see he had a 535xi (mobile app). I'm still perplexed by the jb4 being stronger, unless he was running higher ethanol concentration on JB4 or both tunes and didn't have a protune.

No Pro-tune. And sorry but I forgot to update my profile, now I have a 335XI.
The Ethanol mix was the same (5.5 Gal), but you never know for sure what % they have in the pumps. Sorry no logs of the run.

Have had both tunes on my car and these are my personal bests for each tune:

JB4 = 12.7@112mph
Cobb stage 2+ = 12.4@116mph

you're on par with stage2+ agg running on 93.
