BMW Twinpower Turbo 4-cylinder N20 Motor Animation
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW Twinpower Turbo 4-cylinder N20 Motor Animation Here's a neat animation of BMW's new Twinpower Turbo 4-cylinder Motor (aka N20) - Full Tech Specs. This new engine is a 2.0L gas powered 4-Cylinder engine which uses BMWs TwinPower (single turbo - twinscroll) turbo technology, good for 245HP and 350Nm of torque. This engine is closely modelled after its 6-cylinder brethern N54 and uses an all-aluminium crankcase, precision direct fuel injection, with VALVETRONIC. The N20 engine will make its US debut in two models later this year. There's no official word yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if it was the X1 and the Z4 28i. The N20 engine is now powering the X1 28i in Europe and the first reviews of this motor have been positive (preliminary N20 reviews).

cool animation! we'll always prefer 8 over 6, 6 over 4.. who knows maybe in 10 years we'll be saying "i don't want no 2 cylinder hydrogen motor, i'll take a 4 cylinder turbo any day" lol

Frankly I can't wait!!! Since the gas prices where I live are now $3.70 a gallon, and rising, good fuel economy is a must today. Specially since I keep hearing rumors that the Saudi oil is running out... anyone wants to pressure U.S. To drill in Alaska? Who's with me

I'd take the N20 over the N52 any day. Once you drive a turbo, you fall in love and start stalking that low end torque like a creepy guy at pre school...

Sweet. I need better gas mileage for a commuter, yet still have some fun!

Will this engine be used for the 2012 F10 528? It was rumored so a few weeks ago but I've been seeing posts stating that now its only for the X1 and Z4

Personally, I suspect that the two vehicles in which it will debut first in the US are the 528i and Z4 28i for MY2012. The X1 will get it too, but I don't think that vehicle has been confirmed for certain in the US for this year yet. There was some talk of another delay, so I could see it coming in March 2012 instead, for example. |
