$325 for the bolts, waterpump and T-stat and $280 for installation? For a 335i? Remember, this procedure is based on an '07 335i automatic and something tells me we're not comparing apples to apples here.

Def did not see the part number there earlier for some reason (probably reading too fast.) Got the install done fairly easy, found easiest way to get those factory plastic elbows to attach back on is to rub some WD-40 on the coupler and it slides right in.

You're right I should clarify it's for a 2006 325i AT. That said, I think the pumps/thermostat's are pretty similar (the 335i's WP being slightly higher AMP).

I'm not trying to discount what you said, but can you let others know where you got the parts for so cheap? Even Tischer/ECS charge $375-400 for JUST the waterpump let alone the t-stat ($90-100) and coolant ($20ish). Thanks.

Paying someone else to do it for you is a great idea too, esp if they'll take $300.

I really lucked out in that a member here accidentally bought the non-turbo pump for his turbo car and sold me the brand new pump for $250 (including shipping!). I bought the t-stat brand new for $85 shipped. Coolant was $24 after tax, bought at a local indie shop here in the East Bay.

I think the value of my original comment was that you can pay someone ~$300 to do all this work. The rest was just bragging that I got such a good deal

Apparently the waterpump I ordered is an older revision (and cheaper). So if you ordered the one I did then you would need the bolts I ordered. Otherwise order what the OP ordered.

I am not sure. I think I read something about adding or removing a rubber bushing for vibrations.

Awesome guide! I will definitely save the $800 of labor my dealership wants to charge for this and do it myself. I already ordered all the parts and tools needed and will do this next week after I return home from a small 1 week trip.

Do you guys recommend also buying new bolts for the thermostat or just the new ones for the water pump?

By the way, I also ordered a wifi ODC reader and will use BMWhat? ro reset the codes/errors. Quick question reference that... Will I see errors/codes which aren't normally displayed on the dashboard by using BMWhat?

Thanks for the help, guys!

I used the same bolts for the t-stat. As for an answer to the second question, you may want try the General forum section. All the best and remember to read the bold print pre-amble thoroughly.

Thanks... I just ordered the parts from Tischer. Can't wait to get started on it.

If you read the codes you should see a combination of water pump or t-stat messages.

Mine read something like:
1) coolant pump, speed deviation
2) coolant pump, communication

these happened moments before my overheat warning/limp mode.

t-stat got replaced anyway because.

Ok, so BMWhat? with a wifi OBD scanner will work to read these types of codes and I don't need to buy a dcan cable?

Just want to make sure since I already ordered the wifi OBD scanner and don't want to buy a dcan cable if not needed.

Just wanted to say thanks for this walk through I just performed it today. Also, I know it says you need to install the thermostat after the pump but I was able to install the t stat first and then the pump. It took me about 3 hours to get everything apart and less than an hour to get it back in this way. Setting the torque on the top bolt gets a bit trickier but this seemed much easier to do this way.

Mission Accomplished!!!

Took me about 4 hours for removal, install and code/errors reset... Couldn't have done it without this tutorial. Thanks again!

BTW, I did not use any sort of thread lock paste on the pump bolts. Is this ok?

Congratulations and think of the $$$ you saved.

I didn't use anything on the bolts, just torqued them as specified.

One difference I know of is finding a low point to drain the coolant. You may have to remove your intercooler to get to the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. Not a big job from what I've seen plus you'll have more room to maneuver the T-stat.

If you are able, remove the splash guard and do a comparison with the pictures to see what you're up against or maybe someone who owns one can chime in.
