What would you choose ?

Just wondered what you lot would choose- M3 or M5 ?

I notice that even a 2007 M5 with low mileage is a similar price to a new M3

I would have to go for an M5, especially me being a tall chap....

My father drives an M5, i've had the opportunity to drive this many a time and tbh i'm not a fan of this car. I can't stand the SMG box, i find it almost impossible to drive this car smoothly.

Can't understand why BMW never offered the manual M5 over here and instead gave the option to the Americans.

My advice would be to buy the new M3 with a proper gearstick.

I couldn't agree more! SMG gearbox in the M5 is awful, unless you're giving it full beans when you expect the thunk-thunk of the gearbox.. but in traffic, or just driving at a sedate pace as is more than normal most of the time, it's jerky and imposible to anticipate...

ps.. how's your car? done anymore to the hifi in there?

I would only drive the M5 full throttle everyhwere anyway so i wouldnt be bothered by clunkyness when cruising slow, thats a similar thing with the 335i, smoother than an SMG M5, but a HELLUVA lot slower.. You pays your monies mate

M3 for looksm M5 for pace

i want both.... but if i was getting one for xmas i would ask for M3

I would have the same as OliH . The problem i believe though is that driving a M5 you would be looking at around 180 miles from a tank of super ?
Thats got to hurt and i think thats why so many litter Autotrader at the moment. Its the same with all the big engine cars these days and i think it will be the same with the new M3 which IMO has just come out at the wrong time.
Higher interest rates , confidence down with the market and house prices falling means the premium brand cars are going to be first to be hit. Just have a look at 997 prices which are dropping very fast.

Humbug !

Oh and the fact that my re-mapped 335D, like Scoot's is stupidly fast, so probably bypass the M series and go straight for the 997!!!!

I'm waiting for the M3D (or M3d) ... souped up 335d engine in an M3 with a manual gearbox would be perfect.

Thats the thing with a DMS 335D , what the bloody hell do you replace it with ?
Seriously , i have never had a car that tick's all the boxes like this car. Yes i would love an RS4,M3 or a M5 Touring but for the first time in my life i can't see the point as this bloody car does the lot, apart from sounding as good.
The engine is perfect for our UK roads , so easy to cover ground and so relaxing in doing so.
To me the best combination is having a remap 335D and buying a proper drivers car for weekends/track like a 997, Cat,Atom or Lotus
