How to shuffle shuffle iPhone connected via USB?

Having trouble figuring out this new iDrive guys.. I've managed to do a straight shuffle with my songs, but once I 'search' something I can't figure out how to go back and just shuffle my music via iDrive.. been frustrating!

This is while the phone is connected via USB in the armrest. I'm finding the whole thing kinda tedious actually

Under options via the iDrive have you checked the Random box? Does it get unchecked when you search?
