Height? I'm 1/4" away from all the way down, can't go any lower since it will bottom out theshock and no suspension travel at all.
I think this is the lowest an XI can get...
This looks good! Do you have any close up shots of the front? I want to see how much you can eliminate that gap but no compromise the suspension travel. Is that 1/4" enough when you hit bumps? I don't want everything compressed to the max just to get lower - why do the XI's have this issue!

Great thread, good info. I just replaced my factory 17s with 19s and I definitely need to drop this thing at least an inch.

I actually cut out almost all of the bump stop in the Front shock since it was like 1", and because of that, i have around 3/4" of shock travel which is pretty enough. Only time ill say i bottom out in the front is when i carry 3 people and hit the biggest bump.

Thanks for looking and actually reading before asking "do Xi owners use coilovers?" !! Some people just are clueless. Post up what you end up going with!

so isn't it bad for the piston of the strut to be compressed all the time and travel only that 3/4"?

Nice drop. Are those 17's? Also how do you like the KW's? Is it too harsh? how does it feel when you go in to a pothole or a bump?

Im looking to get coils eventually, havent done much reading, but I know that KWs are pretty popular around here. Would be nice to be able to get pretty flushish on a XI.

they are 18".

I've had a couple rwd 330's w/ sport suspension and the KW's run much nicer then bmw's own sport suspension. if I hit a manhole, I'm not worried. if I run into a corner at double the speed limit, I don't have to think twice about it till after the fact. there is a reason so many people on this forum speak highly of KW's and harsh is not a word that comes to mind.

Thank you for the input. I have a thread here
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707699
and looks like MassBimmer says its garbage. Kind of confused so before I got with anything, I'm trying to ask lots of questions who actually has the setup.

i think if you just want to lower your car - get some eibachs and call it day - I think many users on this forum use it and it does the job. Now what shocks/strut you go with is another argument. Eventually you will just have to pick one of the few choices we have and experiment. The mileage will vary with everyone experience. Not everyone has the same settings - adjustments - tires - etc. so all the input has to be taken with a grain of salt. No one's word here is the bmw gospel. we just have to research and make an informed decision.

well...

looks like he/she said "I've heard from many that the ride quality of KW V1's and H&R coilovers is garbage so I would consider a different set up."

seems he/she hasn't actually run KW V1's to know first hand.

you've heard different here, as I am running KW V1's. but there are plenty of other threads and comments from people who have used KW's.

I have run a sport suspensions on every bmw I have owned and I would actually say the xDrive ride quality is quite poor -- that is, if you are in any way comparing it to a sport suspension, regardless of the type. it's just not a sports suspension, wasn't meant to be.

I've been running H&R coils for a year (15k miles). Everything about them are great thus far.

Handeling is way improved but not harsh at all.

I have not driven the KWs but for what its worth i highly recommend the H&Rs.

bump! i need to make a decision TODAY! From all the data I have collected this is what I have discerned:

You have these popular options:
-KW V1's (seem to be most popular b/c of price and availability - but have heard mixed reviews from great to shitty construction - YMMV I guess on these)
-KW V3's (less popular due to price - but I have heard nothing but good things about these)
-H&R (also popular b/c of the price point - basically comparable to KW V1s)
-HPA Kit (awesome from what I hear from performance stand point - but you won't get the front as low as you may want if you want a slammed look)
-TC Kline True Match Kit (I think Doyle is the only one with these and it's on the $2k price point - so HPA kit is prob the best one for performance for the buck.

More input!

Here is my front gap on my H&R Coils lowered on 19s. Still have the ability to lower the coils more.
