VANOS
So I was hoping Craven could ring in on this. I was wondering if it is possible to disable VANOS and force it to full open electrically somehow. Since all I have hear is VANOS is the reason for the difficulty to tune our motors. Forcing it full open would remove the VANOS variable from the tuning. It would definitely increase power since you dont have to wait for VANOS to do its thing to get full "open" throttle.
edit: sorry I meant valvetronic.... :S Last edited by micah_675; 12-16-2010 at 03:31 PM.. |

I dont think you can disable VANOS without getting a code or Limp mode. Im almost positive all the systems are tied together so if 1 is disabled it wont relay the correct information to the other parts of the car.
Thats just my speculation, as I've never tried to disable it |

vanos isn't really the issue, that is only cam phasing, and turbocharging deals with that just fine (it's on the 335i). It's the valvetronic that controls the lift properties of the valves. I assume that is what you meant, not vanos.

Yes that is what I meant. I would guess that it is worth a look at seeing if it can be disabled/forced full open. I would assume that you would be required to change the cams as disabling it would probably force it to its lowest position. I am just trying to think outside the box or maybe put something out there that my not have been looked at for the tuners.

My comment still stands lol
Although, if you forced it to default to open, you would have no low end power and it would also have a crap idle. 2 things I know for sure. Im working my system to not disable anything, the car functions just fine with the systems it has in place, making the work in harmony with more hardware is the trick |
