Engine start, ignition won't catch?
The car is garaged.
Have about 2500 miles. Yesterday, I tried starting my car in the afternoon. I held the start button for about 3 to 4 seconds before the ignition caught. I don't think this is normal. What are your inputs? thanks.

Ignition won't catch what? I've never heard that one before and I've heard alot. So you're saying that the starter cranks for a long time before the engine starts? If so it could be the HPFP as mentioned above.
BTW, you do know you don't have to hold the button down right? All you have to do is tap it and hold the brake, the starter will continue to spin the motor until it starts.

-You don't have to hold down the start button, just push it and let go and it will crank until it starts. - Despite the alarmists here, one long crank doesn't equal a failed HPFP by a long shot. When you say the car is garaged, are you saying it has been stored and not driven much for the winter or you drive it daily but today you got a first ever long crank before turning over? Relax and see if the problem persists. |

My car typically fires up right away but occassionally cranks for about 3 secs before starting. No driveability issues so far so I assume the HPFP is okay.

Well, that is helpful. I just had a service done, and the car feels a bit slower than before. I had assumed that they reflashed my ECU, adn I got the 'slow' version.

I had the same problem 3 weeks before. Its the high pressure fuel pump.
I changed it on previous week. Unfortunately its not throughing engine codes.
