30k Miles Service Questions

Have a 335i manual car and its needs a oil change service.

Car is around 3 and half years old done around 30,000 miles

Had the following services done already:-

1. Around 19k/1 year 9 month, oil change and micro-filter
2. Around 22k/2 years, brake fluid change

So what would you recommend get done on this service please out of :-

Brake fluid
Mobility system - whats this mean?
Spark plugs
Recirculating air filter
Micro-filter
Air cleaner element
Fuel filter

This is just the list from service book so anything else that is maybe not on the above thats needs doing as well?

Garage List
Brake fluid - yes
Mobility system - whats this mean? No idea.
Spark plugs - yes
Recirculating air filter - same as mirco filter?
Micro-filter - yes
Air cleaner element - yes
Fuel filter -no (because you don't have a replaceable element on on your car)

BTW all these are well within the scope of a reasonably competent DIYer. A BMW stealer will charge you a small fortune for this lot...

Wow, 19k to first oil change and no more for 2 years!!! It must be the 2 year interval for oil that has flagged up.

Are you planning on tuning it? If so you want to start changing your oil every 6k or so.

Do you know why the brake fluid was changed at 18 months? BF is on a fixed 2 year change interval so it needn't have been done then. That means it needs another brake fluid change now as 2 years have passed.

Brake fluid
Oil + filter
Microfilter
Air filter (engine intake)

Spark plugs are due every 3rd oil change, so about 45k average if you follow CBS.

IIRC the 'vehicle inspection' service is due at 36k / 3 years? This is basically an all over check on the ramps.

BTW Mobility system is the M3 & non RFT models puncture repair kit, maybe it goes out of date if you have one??

Thanks for the replies.

So just checking my car is a petrol model and your saying the fuel filter nevers needs changing due to its design?

Yeah will be using an indy garage that I have used for years hes really good.

As regard to turning doughboy, nah its fast enough for me as it is.

Oops got the dates wrong, your right brake fluid was done at 2 years old.

Also the rear brakes need doing now.

So do I get all the following done now:-
New rear brakes
Brake fluid
Oil + filter
Microfilter
Air filter (engine intake)

Or

New rear brakes
Oil + filter
Microfilter
Air filter (engine intake)

and get the brake fluid done in 4 months - this will be 2 years since the last one

Yep, go for:

New rear brakes
Oil + filter
Microfilter
Air filter (engine intake)

Re the brake fluid, it depends on how inconvenient it is for you to go back in 4 months.

If it's a hassle then do it know, else it can wait.

Your 'vehicle inspection' should be due, when does OBD/I-drive say that's due?

Is the vehicle inspection check the MOT one? In a few months time. Might as well get the brake fluid change done at the same time then.

The other one makes me laff the "vehicle check" - thats when a BMW technician walks around and "checks" your car while really working/charging on other customer time/jobsheet and charging you £110 for the honour

Sorry I meant vehicle check, and no its not the MOT.

You're right it is a joke when BMW charge for it, but its a formal service item and to keep your history complete it needs doing and a stamp.

My indy did it, I think they added half an hour on at the appropriate service. Only £20 for a thorough check and the all important 'tick' in the book

And they gave it a good going over, wheels off, torches to see in all the nooks and crannies. They found a worn damper and a bent ARB Link, so worth it really.

Take it to a stealer and ask them for a key read print out, they'll tell you what needs doing. You'll not be obliged to have the service with them, but get a quote all the same. Use Maindealerdiscount.co.uk as a guide.
