Of course not but there may be more to it than that; as I understand the auto system uses piston/cylinder placement information to determine "Where" to start in the cycle.

I was just thinking about his today, myself.

An upgraded starter and perhaps battery would also probably be needed and (as you indicated) the controls logic. The latter may be the deal-breaker.

It would provide a good efficiency gain for anyone who spends a good bit of time in traffic or at lights, but the diesel is a relatively efficient idler--from my limited--understanding when compared to its petrol brothers.

I'd be curious to see if anyone has the know-how and the intestinal fortitude to develop the solution and implement it in his/her vehicle. Here's hoping...
