Another "I'm ditching the run flats" post...

I've currently got the OEM Bridgestone Potenzas and fronts are almost completely worn on the outside but there's plenty of tread left on the inside/middle - Annoying...

Anyway, I've narrowed it down to 3 potential new tyres:

1) Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
2) Continental Sport Contact 5
3) Falken 452

Plan to get them from camskill and fitted when my car is in for service next week at BMW. Any idea how much stealers charge for fitting?

I'd like to hear anyone's opinions on any of the above or any other tyres I should consider and why.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I did a post a while back about falkens 452 vs veredestein. The veredestein seemed to be more favoured. Maybe add them to your list to consider.

i run 452's on mine and think they are a great all round tyre! had them on 10 months now and no complaints

they fit nicely, from what i have seen/experienced and been told, they fit with a slight stretched look so they look pretty nice when on

Get the contisports. A different league to the falkens.

If you want an upgrade go Falken. If you want a complete tyre get the conti's.

Thanks - I read somewhere the conti sports 5 wear quite quickly in comparison to the goodyears and the goodyears seem to win all the awards.

One vote for Vreds, one for the falkens and one for the conti's!

Falkens are crap. The only thing they have going for them is they're cheap. Hated them on my previous car. Never again.

What are you running on your 335i Dan? I'm looking to ditch the run-flats on mine and have narrowed it down to Conti 5P's or F1 A2's. I was leaning towards the Goodyears but then I spoke to Birds; they seem to favour the Continentals and, given their experience and expertise with the E92 335i, I give a fair bit of weight to their opinion (and hence the 5P's are probably the favourites now). However, I don't think you'd go far wrong with either!

Speaking to a few folk I know, although replacing the runflats improves ride comfort they reduce steering feedback and feel of the car.

My rears need done soon and I'm not convinced to ditch run flats yet.

Not at all unless you go for a comfort based tubeless tyre.

i've got conti 5ps...brilliant tyre! make you get the extra load (xl) rated of whatever non rft you get...helps keep the steering feel

Anyone know how XL compares with normal load ratings? The fronts are 88 and the rears are 91 on my existing tyres so are the XL's at least the equivalent of 91?! Spotted some 5P's on Camskill's website but, unlike a lot of the other tyres they advertise, there are no load ratings quoted!

Ran Ultrac Sessantas on my old M3 CS and was very pleased with them. However, the price seems to have increased over the last year or two and, for the size to fit a 335i, they're actually more expensive than either 5P's or AS2's (or at least they are at Camskill!). I used to think of the Vreds as having premium performance without the premium price but that doesn't appear to be the case nowadays!

I'm running Falken 452 and whilst they are great value they're not really up to the job.

With being Evolve stage 2 I was hopping to upgrade to a quaife diff but my turbo wastegates are toast so money has been redirected for now.

I'm looking at new rubber v soon and with no LSD on the horizon I'm going to be spending more $ on them this time around. The falkens have been ok but can be a little unpredictable / snappy under throttle hence I'm now looking for the grippiest I can find.

The general consensus here is the Sport Contact 5's which is prob the route ill go, however does anyone know how much better they are (if at all) to the Sport Contact 3's?

Also, the falkens always seemed slightly narrower than other tyres so was running (18") 235/265 rather than 225/255 to gain a little tyre wall protection. will I be able to do this with the conti's or are they naturally wider

I have run 3 sets of Falkens. One of them on a 120d. Basically thewere fine on the 1 series but it was a different matter on the E90 - and I am talking about on two different E90s.

On the first E90 initially they felt fine, but started to wear excessively on the edges. When this happens they became incredibly noisy - so bad in fact that I thought I had a wheel bearing failing so I had this checked out and was told the bearings were fine.

Then I paid out to have a full 4 wheel alignment at a stealers (thereby negating the money I had saved on the Falkens). There was nothing wrong with the alignment.

That E90 was then written off and I bought another. A new set of Falkens on this car did exactly the same thing. Hence I decided not to bother with them any more.

I am now running a full set of Nokian tyres from Oponeo - chosen because they excelled in an independent tyre test. All is well so far - although the fronts have only been on about a week.

So my recommendation it to avoid the Falken 452 as I don't think they suit the E90. I also have a set of Falken winter tyres for the same E90 and have had no issues with them at all.

After much research I'm going from the Falkens to the Goodyear eagle F1s as they're supposed to be a lot quieter than the conti's and the all round reviews look great.

Anyone fitted a size up in these? My falkens don't have much rim protector so was going to go for 235 rather than 225 on the Goodyears on my 18s?. Would 235 be too wide in these tyres?

Vredestien ultrac sessanta on mine. Love then, great handling and good in the wet. Decided against conti as my mate got through his 5's stupidly quickly. Since getting the Vreds I see them everywhere, including another friends VXR8 and another mates 535d. Only hear good things. Mine are 19 inch wheels and I got all 4 for under 700 fitted.

Can I ask where you got the Vreds for that money? Camskill seem as competitive as anyone on price but for a full set of 19" tyres for mine I'm looking at around £775 delivered. I've then got fitting on top of that and all the reputable people seem to be charging £15/corner (wonder if they've realised that more people are sourcing over the internet as I'm sure fitting didn't used to be as much as that!). Anyway, fitted I'm looking at around £835 for a set of Vreds which makes your figure of less than £700 look very good!

Hi, I got mine from mytyres.co.uk or .com?! To be fair I got them fitted really cheap through a friend but the tyres were still cheaper than camskill which surprised me as I have always used them in the past. Mytyres also do free fast delivery as well.

I know what your saying about places not liking fitting Internet sourced tyres. I think it's pretty pathetic as they will just get left behind. They should just look on it as another source of income?
