Totally Confused by IDRIVE Update Options

Hi, I have a 2006 330i M sport with the Pro Sat Nav and the 2006 DVD. I have read the instructions and tried different discs to update the iDrive to V.32 so I can use the 2009 Nav (acquired) discs and the following happens:

If I use a single layer disc with 2009 Nav, it tells me the 5 minute thing so I shut it down then I restart it 5 minutes later and it then says error reading discs.

If I use a dual layer it does not read it.

Also if I try the iDrive update using a CDR it does nothing.

Is this version of the system simply not able to be updated?

As far as I can tell the PRO discs are too big for a single layer DVD so it must be a firmware thing and I cant even see anywhere to access the version number..

Do a search for 2009.1 and up nav discs. They ship on DL DVDs but don't backup well onto blank DVD+R DLs. However, I *may* have heard about a certain type of slightly modified 2009.1 iso with some data removed so it can be backed up onto a single layer disc. Also, I don't believe you can update the progman (ie to what you're calling v.32) on your own. That's completely separate from the nav data.

You are correct. We cannot update idrive (ISTA/P formerly known as PROGMAN or CIP) ourselves. V.32 does refer to a ISTA/P level and has nothing to do with the NAV disks supplied by NAVTEQ and sold directly by them or BMW. Updated NAV disks are only "data" (maps, POIs, etc) and not the functional aspects or software that makes NAV work.
