Launching the 335d

Hey all,

I've never actually tried launching the 335d from a stop. Usually I just work the gas pedal to make sure I dont lose traction in 1st (or 2nd). I would think that holding the brake while bringing the RPMs up to 2500ish (and then letting go) may work.

Anyone have any experience?

There are a few diesel heads that have strip experience with the car, so hopefully they will chime in. I *think* second gear starts are the preferred method, but I can't remember what I've read. If you're in the mood to search around, poster Ron1n has done some strip work.

Did a 2nd gear WOT from stop from idle in the '30d. Was very quick and no traction loss but the road was excellent and on a very slight incline - obviously aiding RWD. It was warm too.

Brake boost to 2k RPM (with DSC off) and let fly. Do it in DS or manual. Be prepared to shift quickly if you want the optimal experience (for 1st and 2nd, 4k is the best time to shift, as that's where the greatest amount of torque..there is a slight loss after, and it is noticeable when shifting). It takes some practice, but once you get it down, it's a blast.

If 1st goes too fast for you to shift, try a 2nd gear launch instead.

My runs were all 2nd gear launches, and brake boosting between 2000-2500 rpm. Traction control off. I just let the car shift by itself in the manual mode..but I don't think mine goes to redline anyways.

Yup; don't kick-down the kick-down and you'll be all set.
