Prepping plastic for paint
After seeing Geesh's thread when he sprayed his trim gloss black I want to go down the same route as there are may different colours available (nothing too hideous btw). I have tried CF wrap which looks ok and had it for about 7 months and alsow wrapped the side trims in gloss black. I am not happy with the finish of the wrap and much prefer the painted look
Mine is the walnut wood style which has a lacquer effect, how would I go prepping the surface? Can I use something like 1000 grit sandpaper to key the surface and then go ahead with plastic primer, paint and laquer? |

I rubbed mine down with 400 sand paper, then 800's, I then wiped them down with some surface cleaner and then just sprayed the paint straight on, as you have already "keyed" the paint there is no need for primer as your previous paint acts as the primer, then it's just spray base coat (colour) then a few coats of lacquer, I then rubbed them down with wet and dry starting with 1500, then 2000 then 3000 then a course polish, then a fine polish and hey presto job done! If you want any more info just drop me a PM, where about in the mids are you?
