That sounds alright actually.

The speedometer seems to be moving pretty fast for the power too.

What cars is this engine going in?

interesting, sounds ok. I wonder if you can feel the lack of 'natural' balance though in the engine?

the auto box seems pretty quick & smooth too.

in my old job we had a mitsubishi colt which had a 1.1 3 cylinder engine. It sounded hilarious, like a mini V8, very throaty and keen, was a fantastic aggressive sound. Similar to what we're hearing here. It was also surprisingly powerful low down and fun to drive. Add 400cc and a turbo and I bet it could be a great deal of fun!!

I remember years ago driving a Brabus smart coupe thing that had a tuned three cylinder lump in it; the gearboxes was hideously slow witted, but when you were ringing the nuts off it it (somehow) manhed to sound like a Ferrari 355.

I'm genuinely impressed with the sound of that little BMW engine.

Few Highlights

-178bhp and 199lb ft – impressive enough figures given its relatively small 1.5-litre engine.
- single air-to-air turbocharger
- eight speed automatic gearbox
- less of the characteristic turbine whine
- 0-62mph time of less than 8.0sec
- 56mpg on this prototype

Impressive!

When I first read about these engines my initial reaction was "oh no!"

It sounds good in that video and sounds promising on paper. The figures aren't big but it looks like pace is quite evenly spread across the rev range, from what I can see in the vid. Hopefully quite quick when rolling like a diesel. Potential for a remap hopefully.
