Ok people so I had the valve cleaning done.

Firstly I would like to say that TWG is a smart little outfit in Camberly and very professional. I dealt primarily with Will who was very knowledgable with all things Beemer and an all round good guy.

Ok on to the work, I left my car for the day so don't know exactly how long it takes but budget a day for sure.

You will see from the pictures below that cylinder 4,5 & 6 were particularly coked up and evidently needed doing. You can see from my sig the mods I am running and also use map5 on the JB4 which boosts upto 16-17 psi, so the car is under load.

I am yet to really run WOT as I live in Berkshire and am in need of a U Boat rather than a car at present. However what I can tell immediately is:

Rock Solid idol - no lumpiness at all
Throttle response is much improved and just seems a smoother delivery of power.
Also engine seems less tappy

My car is at 48K miles and I am very glad that I done this - £280 seems a steal - enjoy the pics.

WOW!!!...looks really clean after!...

would be good if you could crack some 20-80 straight WOT....

apart from the smoothness....have you noticed any gains? i.e is the car faster?

i'm tempted...

Until I get to WOT there is no way of telling - however the car seems much smoother and more drive able. Idol is silky smooth - will report back once I get some WOT runs.

This is definately how I'd describe the improvement afterwards at TWG last month. Pulls harder and more effortlessly and throttle more linear. Also my cylinders 4-6 are the worst. I had mine done at 49k , so similar mileage

NEED THIS DONEEEEE!!!I know i keep saying that. I should have time in the next month!

Thank you for the pics, review and the confidence you have entrusted in them

How is your paint work? Because they are obviously leaning over your arches and bumper etc... these areas can get scratched... I hate it when mechanics dont put down appropriate fender covers etc.. and just lean over and scratch up the paint... BMW liked to do this a lot!

Will used a cloth cover over the wing when he worked on my car. BTW, in the UK, a Fender is a guitar...

It would seem my vacuum nipple on the inlet manifold was broken when this work was done and has now completely come off! Looking at several hundred quid for a new manifold!! Not pleased. Got no proof that it happen then though..

The cheapest fix for that would be to JB weld in a brass nipple like this;

http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/61...Fanpwgodn2IAhQ

It's quite an easy thing to break off and the access to it is tricky!

Thanks James! Yeah I had thought of doing this depending how bad the break is. Looks like I won't be doing it this weekend as need to order, unless I can find a local that has stock.

Fixed Inlet Vacuum nipple

....Well I managed to fix the inlet nipple that had broken off completely, tapped a thread and metal barb! .. pulls nice and strong again! What's slightly more worrying is how the inlet valves look after just 4000 miles since walnut blasting! ..

Good update....looks like cleaning the valves is pretty much a waste of time judging by how quickly it comes back

Well what ever BMW put in most recently at 36k and 52k, but before that I did an interim change myself at 44k with Castrol Edge FST 0W-30 Fully Synthetic. Walnut done at 48k miles.
