Its interesting because this car was posted as a prime link on bimmerpost homepage. In the U.S it seems to be recieved generous amounts of praise. However here in the U.K the consensus so far seems to be all negative.

heres the original link.

In the context of him building a replica of Thiim's race car it is awesome, but just looking at it makes me think of someone who has just grabbed bits from Halfords and bolted them on.

If it was on the original 16" M BBS multi spokes it would change the look completely for me. But those Hartge wheels just shout Euro Trash to me and spoil the whole thing.

Mmm.

I'd say dropping a straight six in an M3 E30 is a bit naughty - I would never consider one - but it is certainly not the worst crime possible.

Fitting the unremarkable american E36 M3 engine (and not the full fat euro E36 M3 engine with individual throttle bodies) seems a bit of an odd economy to take given all the effort involved however.

The wheels are Hartge I think, and while a bit "split rim bling" are basically acceptable - and not chavvy halfords. It would look better with period BBS of some flavour of course.

At the end of the day it still essentially an M3 E30 - which is always good.

Because it looks a bit council.

If you saw that on some rough old estate you would think it looks 'chav'd up', seeing it at the track however gives it a completely different perspective.

I understand that ripping a sweet revving, Motorsport developed and highly successful engine and replacing it with the motor from the underwhelming and emmissions restricted US M3 from the the least liked generation of M3's out of the lot of them is a backwards step, regardless of who built it or why.
