Best Emission Compliant Tune for the $

I have a 335i w/ a AT. I have looked at the various piggy-back ECU software and would like to get some feedback from users. I am looking for an Emission compliant tune that will not cause me any issues each year I have to be tested. I am not interested in doing the pay under the table deal. I am not looking for the most power but the easiest and most reasonable software that is 49 state legal. I appreciate any and all input. Thanks

Can't go wrong with any one of following, GIAC stage 1, ESS stage 1, Cobb stage 1, and so on. I guess as long as you don't modify downpipe, it's going to be legal. Just don't expect your car warranty to be still valid if something goes very wrong.

So long as you aren't taking out any of the cats, you're pretty much good to go with all of the major tunes; COBB, JB4, Proceed, etc. If you are really worried about it, you can always put the tune in a bypass mode for the emissions test.

Add $1000 to any tune for two HJS 200-cell cats and any tuning stage can be emission-compliant

In California they passed a law that starting in 2013 cars 2000 year or newer will only require an OBDII scan and no tailpipe testing, so as long as your tune ignores the O2 signal for not having cats you will be fine.

If you get a tune you can uninstall you won't have to worry. Cobb,Vishnu Porcede, Jb4 are all tunes you can uninstall.

I can't say with confidence which tunes are supposed to meet emissions but I would imagine most of them do anyway considering at idle they run the same AFR of 14.7 that the car run's stock. I dont think you should be concerned with any of the popular tunes.

What effects would burning E85 have on a sniff test for emissions? For instance, would an E85 tune be emissions compliant?

I appreciate all of your feedback, sounds like Cobb,Vishnu Porcede, Jb4 are all tunes you can uninstall in the event I have an issue. Next step - I am getting an AFE intake. Of this group, which is the easiest to DIY install/tune software?

Secondly, I have heard that if your car is not designed to run E85 from the factory that you can ruin your fuel injectors/fuel lines. Also the burn in the cylinder is incredibly hot and could cause premature ware/failure. Anyone heard otherwise?

Cobb is easier in the fact that you plug it into your OBD II port and follow the prompts to install. JB4 and PROcede require you to tap into the ECU, not exactly hard, but some people make a mountain out of mole hill.

The car is more then capable of running E85.

Let me know if you need any further assistance with modifications and questions, I'm familiar with the platform personally.

I have heard about that. But I was thinking the OBDII would be worse? no?

Can't it read the AFR's from the OBDII?

My 335i passes the Swedish emmission tests with Cobb stage 2 assembled and active. (Catless downpipes)

They test both tailpipe and OBD as fas as I know.
