$4600 will get you a DCT or Diesel Quaife complete final drive using a new BMW final drive and Quaife ATB LSD.

$1995 with exchange for Wavetrac large housing FD.

$2588 with exchange for Quaife large housing FD.

Telling an ESL patron solely about the most expensive LSD option seems like a cruel attempt to take advantage of a naive person...

Sir, integrity.

There are many other more expensive options out there, but hardly if any less expensive ones for the 335d models.

I don't see how being a diesel sedan effects the type of LSD/f/d combo necessary. I also don't see where you concluded that he has a 335d based on the thread title, "E92 335 Lsd" although that is irrelevant...

An appropriate response from a trusted vendor would have been the option of various brands and the OPTIONAL final drive ring and pinnion.

I think you can get an LSD for around $1000 plus labor......?

Wavetrac, yes. Quaife, $1400 ish...

Labor, $500-$700?

Glad I'm not the only person who had issue with this...

I did the uninstalling/installing of my pumpkin myself. I got my wavetrac from mike@n54 for 990 shipped in a GB. Paid 35 for new seals and 125 for the install. Out the door in my car with an LSD I was 1150 out of my pocket.

I may have read it wrong. If it was a "D", the $4600 is one of the less expensive options.

If it wasn't a "D", but rather an "i", then it's a different story. With a welded ring gear on late model 335i's, you are still looking at a $1995 Wavetrac or $2588 for a Quaife final drive. You can not simply purchase the LSD only and expected to be installed locally as the ring gear must be machined.

Given the memeber's location, a drive shaft may even be required as the drive shaft to pinion flange is different than the US market.

That is a one time deal and will not happen again. Wavetrac drop the ball on that one to allow a none authorized dealer to sell Quaife at the price!

You are one of the few with a bolted ring gear on a M/T, production date before 02/2007. Any 335i after that must purchase a complete final drive.

If someone is selling the Wavetrac at $1000, I wan to know about it. Wavetrac will remove their dealership status.

Assuming he has manual (maybe you know from prior knowledge, I don't see anything indicating it). For automatics, it was only between 3/07 to 9/07 that it was welded.

Autos were never welded, regardless of production date.

We have been doing this ever since the E9x chassis came out and have 99% of the applications covered. The only unknowns are M/T cars produced in 02/2007.

Then why does Wavetrac require you to buy the extra kit for welded diffs for automatics between 3/07 and 9/07:

How long has Wavetrac been around? Two years maybe? We have been doing this for four years now and have been collecting data since day one.

We have a much more accurate chart here:

Well if they haven't figured it out in 2 years, then having 2 more years experience seems like a moot point. Don't take that the wrong way, it just seems like something you'd find out pretty quickly, especially if they went out of their way to make a kit for it.

Anyways, I'm not questioning you as much as I'm questioning pretty much every other thread I've seen and, of course, Wavetrac's site. If this is true, I'm curious why or when this info started to spread around.

On a side note, your chart just explained my problem. I bought an LSD on here, and the pumpkin was off an 08, but the guy thought it would fit my 07 (June production). Turns out it was too short. Looks like that's because I had the large diff, and the 9/07+ got a small one.

Actually, there is a huge difference between 2 and 4 years. In 4 years we have sold over 180+ Quaife units along and only 20 or so Wavetracs(2 year period). In addition, we were hands on and had to deal with the bolted/welded/large case/small case until enough data was collected.

My question is:

Where did myself and AMASIAN get the number from? I myself saw it on the forum ages ago. Can't speak for AMASIAN, but I'm almost certain he saw it on here too.......

Maybe those were GB prices, but still, the full retail shouldn't be 50-100% more, no?

Also with the whole AT not having welded pumpkin or whatever.....you're saying the production date doesn't matter? And that they're all bolted, not welded?

Just want some clarification. Not trying to start any thing.

TIA

I think all parties involved here acknowledge that something very tasteless and underhanded occurred here and while attempts were made to justify it, it's still painted red.

Let's just let this go and hope that this consumer wises up to these tactics...

And Ryder, I do recall the gb pricing but through extensive searching, I have found wavetracs as low as $1100 plus shipping from a web retailer, posted on their site. Don't know if that pricing is still in effect though.

TIA

Nothing underhanded or tasteless. Harold has done more for this community in regards to LSD options and knowledge, as well as suspension upgrade options than anyone else.

For example, the number he posted for a quaife final drive unit of $2588 + core has been the same price for about 1 year. If you have a welded diff and and want to swap that's the way to go.

If you are bolted then it's less. The last time I saw prices rise on the final drive quaife unit was May 2010 from $2210 + $800 core to $2588 + $1000 core. The way the USD's value has been dropping something like that is expected.

The lower dollar numbers <$1000 were for a group buy, just for bolted diffs, that was below distributor rules.

If you are lucky enough to not need a final drive unit you are looking at $1200-1350 range (depending on brand) + shipping. Then the labor if you pay someone to install it.

There is another site where they got some 1100 numbers for wavetrac for bolted diff's but it has not even gotten off the ground. If you are lucky enough to have a bolted diff, you can go to Harold for $1230 + shipping right now (not a final drive unit and a sale price) on the wavetrac.

Yea, I don't agree with the statement that everyone here "acknowledges" that something tasteless was done. I just wanted some clarification on bolted vs. welded, and even though I was questioning him about that at first, Harold has already been willing to help me with an unrelated issue.
