drivers door lock not working

Hi all,

As the title says, my central locking is working but the drivers door lock is not unlocking with it (only locking)!

This is making it a pain to get into the car, either lowering the windows and using the interior door handle, or using the little key from the fob.

Dealer wants £40-£120 to look at it, not incl any repair etc, and as its out of warranty they are not sure if BMW will honour a goodwill gesture.

I just don't have that money just for diagnostics!

Will be trying and indi, but if anyone has had similar or knows how to repair then please advise!

Thanks,

And here is another good drivers door issue. Just started. Open door with fob button and get in, close door and it does not catch (almost as if you have your jacket trapped.) No, actually the door catch does not catch on the loop. Operate the inside handle and then it shuts properly.......has happened about 3 times in a couple of weeks.

Interesting.....

Thanks, i know them as they did my brake pads on the back.. I was going to show the car on Monday to them.

Dealer wanted £80-£150 just to look for a fault!

Its not an actuator I think, more a solenoid, as I can unlock the door from the interior handle once the fob has been used to lower the windows and unlock the rest of the car.

I can also lock the doors with the button on the dash and the fob, just that neither raises the drivers lock and no noises from that door. So its not getting the signal!

Anyhow.. will see what daignostics says.

As for the door not shutting, I had my exterior handles all replaced under warranty as they all caught and stuck in the open position, this prevents the doors from closing as the lock will not close until the exterior handles are back to rest.

I don't have this problem since the replacements, though the drivers door was showing some signs during the extreme cold spell.

Outrageous - especially when you consider that they probably already know what the problem is.

I'm sorry, but our knowledge and experience isn't free. What if we were to just tell you what needed replacement for free, then you went to an independent shop and had them do it? First of all, we'd lose money. Second, if we were wrong, you could sue us for the amount of the repair because we misdiagnosed it. The diagnosis usually gets rolled into the repair, but we need to get paid to look at your car. If you cannot afford 120 pounds for diag, then maybe you bought the wrong car?

Hold on - but I think £120 for a diagnosis ON TOP of the repair is over the top. I see where you're coming from.......

But if the workshop then rolled the initial diagnosis into the replacement cost or made it more reasonable, we'd not complain.

If I were called out to an appliance that wasn't working, and was asked to diagnose it but not actually repair it, I would charge for it no questions.

Indeed; but if you actually then carried onto repair it, would you then roll/write off the diagnostic cost into the repair cost? (If you see what I mean?)

If I carried out the work there and then yes, if it were a separate visit then it would be charged out as a separate job. However, with an item of such value and complexity as a car, I would be tempted to extend any warranty to cover this eventuality.

Indeed, makes total sense.

Service workshops during these lean [sales] times are increasingly being expected to perform financially well and to support the rest of the 'quieter' areas of the dealerships - so now is not a good time to expect service depts to be lenient with service/repair costs.

well, i can afford it, just wasn't expecting such a fault on this car.

Anyhow, will see what's wrong with it... i missed the extension of warranty deadline as I had other more important things and costs to deal with.

Its ok, will get it sorted and enjoy driving it as always.
