iPod charge solution for 2006 E90 no usb :)

Hi All,

I bought a 2006 e90 330i yesterday from the dealership from the local bmw dealership I used to work at. I am a computer nerd, so I was only doing all their computer related business, nothing on the cars! Anyway, I love the car so far. It currently has 82000 km on it and drives like a dream. Has sport package and 6spd. Really really like the car. One thing I did realize was that when I picked up the car was that it did not have USB or anyway to integrate my iPod. I saw the mini jack and the 12v in the armrest, but not usb . From what I have read so far looks like the USB was added to later models, 2007 2008+.

I bought the BMW Y cable, so I could use the iPod (I am aware I could buy any mini to mini cable, but I thought I had the usb!). So after some research on these forums and others my options seemed only to buy the full iPod integration kit or use 3rd party mods to make it work. Wasn't so keen on either. But the 12v in the armrest is not very low so I couldn't just buy any regular 12v-USB adapter because they would be to high and the armrest wouldn't close.

I went to Canadian Tire (live in canada) and bought a Winplus 12v->USB adapter (couldn't find website link) but anyway it is very small (1" high) and basically covers the 12v hole with a single USB hole. Which allows the armrest to remain shut. After connecting the USB and mini from my BMW Y cable, starting the car....My iPod Video (30gb) started charging .

I am very happy with this solution and just wanted to share.

Mike

Here you go

This is what I used: http://www.griffintechnology.com/iphone/in-car

You do not use the itrip just charging cable and phono jack. Works great.
