Headlight error message
So I hit a pothole last night and my left headlight dropped to covering only 6' of the road in front of the car. Then a few minutes later, both headlights stopped moving when cornering. Then a few minutes later I got a headlight error message.
I brought it in to the dealership today and after a few hours was told there was a soft code of a headlight malfunction but that it had gone away and there was no physical problem with the headlights. I trust my dealership and they've always been great to me, I'm just curious how this is possible. Do BMWs self-heal or something?

sounds like the motor that controls the headlights isnt working properly. Most likely intermittently and when the car was at the dealer it was working so they didnt notice anything wrong.

They did a full controls check and took it out for a spin to make sure everything was working. Yay for self-healing BMWs, I say.

If it was a persistent problem, It will be a reoccurring code. May have jarred the assembly knocking it off track, then the position recentered itself (like when you first turn on the lights and it looks down and up). Self healing BMWs indeed.

Was this the adaptive headlamp malfunction error? This happened to me one night and it wouldn't corner on turns, went away and never got the error again. Thread I made: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=629437

So, it turns out that pothole did $4600 worth of damage to my suspension and headlight, yet somehow managed to leave my rims in perfect condition.
My wheels are covered by a tire and rim warranty, of course.
