tires good for potholes?
Hey guys,
I'm in the market for a set of new tires after I ran over a pothole last night and a bubble formed on one of my front tires. This is the second time it's happened this year.. I currently have a set of Michelin PSS and I'm in the market for something that won't get damaged as quickly if I drive over another pothole. Any recommendations? I'd want something with similar performances, cheaper (if possible.. i'm getting poor replacing tires like crazy). Thanks! |

I've found that Continental ExtremeContact DW or DWS tires are good for this since they have a relatively softer sidewall than other performance tires.
Hit a pothole on stock Potenza run-flats and the tire popped right on the bead. But yeah, avoid the potholes. |

If potholes are that much of a problem, you should get the warranty from Discount Tire or any other tire shop that offers the same.
I have run Nittos and Vredesteins and haven't had a problem with potholes, "knock on wood". |

We have not found that any one particular tire or brand of tires are more resistant to pothole damage.

You will not find a tire that is marketed as being better at holding up against potholes. What I can suggest though is pay attention to the construction of the tire, load index, etc.
When I shop for tires I generally check to see if they have reinforced sidewalls.

Curious...are you running 18s or 19s. I stayed with 18s but then again a big pothole will ruin any tire.
