Buying Extended Warranty
Hello,
I would like to know it its worhtwhile to get extended warrenty and maintenance for the car after the initial factory expires . I got a quote for $6k for both . I wont run of miles but # of years on the warrenty as I am light driver driving 10 or 11k per year with car having 27k miles. My car is 08 335xi and it already got fuel pump , injectors , spark plugs replaced. It worries me what will go wrong next year when the warranty is up ? |

very negotiable to not go for list price.
I got a quote of 2600 for gold, two year.........forgot the mileage for warranty I never tried the maintenance. I will self insure, and not buy either. |

Unless you are putting at least 25k/year on the car and burning through brakes, definitely avoid purchasing the extended maintenance. And doesn't BMW still warrant the HPFP for 120,000 miles/ten years?

2008 328i coupe
bought the maintenance package for 1400 with the car. just hit 40k and replaced brakes and got about 8k left for 1st the big maintenance due. when this hits, i would be making money out of this purchase.

I agree the maintenance service pays it self if you drive a lot. the brakes are the first to go. |

I bought my car, a 2006, CPO with 38k miles on it in Nov. 2008 and I paid an extra $2,100 for ext maint. NOt worth it to me. The only things I've had done so far is 2 oil changes, brake fluid flush and wiper inserts. By the time I need plugs and brakes, my maint warranty will expire. It expires 9/2011 and I should need brakes sometime after that. Definitely not worth buying ext maint. on a CPO car.

^ my warranty is extended to 6/100,000 miles from being a CPO car.
so i have 40k which leaves me 60,000 more miles its 2008 so i have 2 years left for the warranty part. which ever comes first tho. far as the maintenance goes, it would have been over when i hit 40k or if 4 yrs came up first. but i paid extra 1400 so that i would have maintenance up to 100,000 miles no matter the years. this way i can always just take it in and get something done if i think there is something that needs to be done. all they can say is "nothing wrong" or fix what ever it is and dont have to pay a penny for anything. im coming from owning 2 mercedes, they never offered a prepaid maintenance package and always had to pay for each. at the dealers (must if you have warranty left on the car) initial service A & B is about 400 - 500 bucks every 13k - 15k depending on model. so for me it was no brainer to buy the prepaid package. all these cars are high end cars no matter what series you drive. either you are going to fork it over for something or try to make the best deal you can when you can. if not might as well drive something else. i already got my moneys worth. just check how much your brake change is. then how much your first initial maintenance is. then add up how much oil change would be (least two). then also add peace at mind knowing you can just take your car in for any work. im coming from owning 2 mercedes previously, both cars take about 400 - 500 bucks for maintenance or service A & B every 13k to 15k miles depending on the car model. all work had to be done at the dealership unless you wanted to void any kind of warranty to the car. MB before never sold anything pre paid package until this year so for me it was a no brainer to buy a prepaid package.

I already got brakes replaced at 20 k miles due to the squeaking noise. I wont need brakes untill another 25k miles. BMW doesn;t do Level 1 or level 2 inspections anymore .
I have 27k miles on the car after having it for 3 years. To extended the warrenty not the maintenance it will be $4000 for platinum still looking for better deal. I wont run out of miles on my car for either the extended warrenty or maintenance only numbers of years. Lets hope that the car doesn't have any major warrenty issues and hope its doesn't fall apart .. |

Tom Edit: you might want to recheck your paperwork as the BMW website states that: "The Maintenance Program Upgrade option also extends the standard 4 years/unlimited mileage BMW Roadside Assistance Program benefit period by an additional 2 years/unlimited mileage for a total of 6 years/unlimited mileage." http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...lPrograms.aspx Tom |
