Couple of mods today, pretty impressed....
So, as its payday I decided to treat myself!
First of all, quick, cheap, easy mod, debadge - Took a while, that glue is well and truly stuck on! Then I took a trip to the engine tuner down the road and asked how much and if he could fit me in for a remap, his words 'bring it in now' happy days! Ok, so did my first run, was a bit disappinted as it was only running 160bhp and 240lbs torque, never mind so I carried on, here it is sat on the dyno. So, 20 minutes later, code is downloaded, sent off and received back, uploaded onto the ECU, time for the new result - What a difference, car feels absolutely different, like a new car, im really impressed with it! Anyway, that was my day today, all in all quite a good one! Cheers, Alex |

Bloody hell, Alan Jeffery still going?
Never had a great press so far as I recall and I'm a Plymouth lad. Ok on fettling some DCOE, but anything circa 1990 onwards look elsewhere! I see he's just buying an off the shelf map from another supplier and flashing it. Hope it was cheap - you could do that at home!

Improved reputation or no; To be fair those numbers are almost impossible unless the car is now on the edge of bricking a turbo or engine.
220 is the most I've ever seen from a properly configured rolling road and that was on a car pushed very hard. Mine was 215 as they dialled it back slightly. I'll guess your car is absolutely fine though and that he just doesn't know how to use the RR But. Having mapped a 320d and ran with it, I bet you're over the moon with the result. It's like a new car. What do you expect; it puts you within 10% of a stock 330d - so it's almost like buying 2 more cylinders. I'd not bother being proud of the RR printout though as I bet a trip to a decent RR will upset you in that case.. Sorry, bit of a mixture of a response that one.

I'm not to worried about the figures, although the rolling road should be pretty accurate, maybe I'll take it to another one up near work and see how it compares! But, it pulls so much better from the lower rev range, don't even have to push it hard. Just need to get my: Exhaust Lip spoiler Front tints (maybe) Alpine upgrade Then I will be happy....for the minute!

+1 on that RR being out. Either that or the print out is doctored (not by you) in some way.
As Mega points out, at 233 a 320d will last about a month before it spews it's guts. I'd get it retested just to make sure it's not actually pushing that as if it is that £300 map could end up costing you £0000s. |

The RR operator can 'adjust' figures by using CF's or correction factors. If you look a your RR printout he is using file:Shoot_4F which could be set at a high ambient press or temp giving higher than average readings.

I've never been a fan of getting the same company who is tuning the car to do the RR.
It seems to read 'oh thats dissappointing' low on the first run but 'oh my god i'm impressed' high on the second. Its gone from a car thats under performing to a car thats producing better results than any other 320D with just a remap. I'm sure the remap is just fine (and probably 210-215BHP) but I agree that an independant RR is required. |

Haha. Easilly done when I'm on so many. Welcome to the bavarian willage, CJ. ps. The 350 is going next week so I'm less likely to remain active over there.. I just don't know enough people to keep going back when the car is gone; unlike this place that I can't escape

You would want to hope that the final bhp has been doctored otherwise, as others say, your engine won't last very long indeed.
I am pretty sure the transmission/drivetrain losses can be guess-timated to calculate the bhp figure - very easy to do by the RR operator and makes his re-map look fantastic! I would guess to get that figure out of a particular car, would take some fettling with the map. Highly doubtful a generic 320D map would be providing such a high bhp figure. I would just check it isn't pushing out 'too much' bhp by an independent RR, and if it isn't be thankful your engine is 'safe' and enjoy your new cheap power increase |

Strangely, if you go onto AJ's web site they're Superchips dealers and Superchip claims + 33 -35 BHP for the 320d

And he's got double that. RR operator's clearly fecked with ambient temperature or load rating. Either that or the car is indeed melting it's turbo as we speak..
That gain is just propostrous... heh

I would guess that he ran the low (pre remap) figure with the correction against his favour and then ran the post remap one with correction in his favour.
73BHP gain is not sensibly achievable on a 320D - over 45% gain! |

Yesterday was a nigh perfect day for dyno output figures. the air was cold and dry. + 40 BHP would have been about right
