That showed that there was no more learning/tweaking to be had for the given conditional (fuel quality, temps, other engine characteristics ...).

As far as ET, with the way the tune is setup now, most of the ET variance will be due to shifting at different RPM points. For that day, I was mainly focused on consistent traps, which is more indicative overall power.

Take for example my 3rd run - I purposely rolled out for my launch to get data to prove the following:
- a good or bad 60' has very little to 1/4 trap (it does have an effect on the 1/8, but by the 1/4 mile a bad is almost neutralized by then)

Metric - (rolled launch) (hard launch)
60' - 2.272 ... 1.590
1/8 ET - 8.399 ... 7.472
1/8 Trap - 93.301 ... 94.616
1/4 ET - 12.590 ... 11.647
1/4 Trap - 121.271 ... 121.356

These runs were 20 minutes apart (finished run 3 and got back in line to do run 4). If you peel off the lousy 60' time of the 3rd run, you would be around the same ET as the 4th run. I think that is why, myself and many others are more concerned about traps than ET ...

Trap Speed = power
ET = power + driver skill + luck?

I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for explaining. Do you daily drive your car? After your drag day and some daily driving... did you see the auto-tune adjust the parameters back to where they were before? Seems like a cool feature.

huyner328 - yes, this is my daily driver. As far as seeing autotune work during my commute, I'm typically cruising to the office due to traffic. Please also remember, that the you're probably already at 95% of optimal with the base map. The autotune is only for that last 5% which is conditions based. That last 5% was what you would have to datalog and use the user adjustable settings in the past ... that part is removed.

I think the majority of people don't need to tweak out that last 5%. I think there is general confusion in the community that you need to tweak stuff, you don't. If you're trying to get the best 1/4 mile possible, then that would be the situation you tweak and turn on autotune.

Or just leave autotune on all the time ... which is the best of both world. Simple, effiicient and maximized.

Junk,

If you get some Kosei's up front it will help reduce the rolling mass which in turn will lower your ETs. Just a friendly suggestion to help getting into the low 11s.

Hi supradriver,

Yes, I think losing weight is always helpful, when you lose unsprung, rotational weight is even more beneficial.

How much? I'm not sure, I view the rotational mass as a tax that eats power, since it needs to accelerate the that mass from 0 to 120+mph.

I may consider doing what Mr.5 did and get some K-1s a daily driver setup. I think that setup would drop 8lbs off the wheels and maybe 2-3 lbs off the tires. But i'm not a real drag race type guy, so its hard to justify getting that setup vs. buying an iPad for fun.

JPSlick - I hope your N54T access comes back shortly.

Donald-335i/Autobahn335i - thanks for the compliments.

Chefcg1 - I'm not sure if we really want redline shifted upwards. I think the turbos will run out of breath way up in the revs. I do wish we could use the range up to 7K vs. 6200rpm, but it will be at the cost of extra shock to the 6AT shifting at high boost. The boost taper is a good idea.

cn555ic - Regarding when to go WOT while brake boosting ... I feel that as long as you engage the throttle 1.0-1.5 seconds before letting go of the brakes, that would have built enough boost for a good time. If you exceed 2.0 seconds (with today's firmware), it will bog the motor (I think its some sort of safety mechanism). So that is why I recommend going WOT/Brake boost just after the tree lights up the 3 yellow lights ... it will be less than 2.0 seconds before it turns green, so you'll be good.

Thanks,

Internet Ego Boost Questions, can this run claim the following:
- Best 60' times?
- Quickest non-NOS 335i 6AT?
- Quickest non-NOS Sedan?

Don't know about any "fastest" claims, though.

Thanks,

Junk
