cool new roof box for my E91
I posted elsewhere about the real or phantom fuel economy increase since I put a roof box on the car...but I have to post here that I love the roof box after getting familiar with the benefits of having one.....
its built for an X3 but I think it looks great on my E91....it sure came in handy this weekend. held 3 pairs of shaped skis easily, made no wind noise and will be useful not only this winter, but for our Summer pilgrimage to NH.... its nice low profile, smooth finish and sleek design had me sold the moment I saw it.... It is pretty slick, you're gonna start a trend!

Do you own any other kind?!
Anyway, seems like a worthwhile investment for any major road trips, my racks TANK economy but also can't hold anything BUT skis and poles. Well. And lumber. Lots of lumber. But that's not useful for road tripping

Looks sweet.
We have two kids. Once the stroller goes in the back of our E91, there's not much room for anything else. I've been thinking about getting one of these. However, I am not sure if yours would solve my problem--it does not look deep enough for a suitcase. |

You must really haul some gear. Next will be saddlebags for your E18 ;^)
I remember many a pilgrimage to NH. Sigh.. the good old days.

This would look great on my E92! Do you think painted flames on it would be overkill? JK - I think it looks good! How much$

thanks for the comments, guys...I plan to paint it gloss black in the spring and maybe accent with a body colored stripe...NO flames...sorry....although, I do like the Optimus Prime truck, now THOSE are flames!
Its about 12" tall at the back and 10" at the front....It will hold back packs and other medium sized bulky items...Im hoping it will give me just that much more room in the trailer and cargo area...WE NEED IT for the pilgrimage. Yeah, Alex, are there any other kinds of skis these days?...looks like I really dated myself on that one... I currently ride a Rossi Experience 88 and LOVE the ski...handles almost as well as the Bimmer! I found the box on Craigslist for 150.00...a really sweet deal for sure. I traveled over an hour and a half to get it...and dont regret it a bit! I could have had a bulkier one from Yakima or Thule for about the same price (CL) but I really wanted to keep the thing low profile. 84" is BIG for this car, any taller and it would really start to look ridiculous. (but functional).. Its also 30" wide which leaves about 8" on each side to the roof rails... Retail these things go for anywhere from 350.00 to 650.00 for aftermarket and I dont even want to know what BMW sold it as an accessory for!.. cheers guys! JP |
