wheel refinishing

Hey guys I bought some wheels from a member on the forum and they were slightly damaged during shipping. I am filing a claim about it on paypal to try and resolve it but I was wondering what does it usually cost to have wheels repaired? The wheels have slight chips in them on each face but it mainly looks like just in the paint of the wheels. Damage doesn't seem too bad and I will try to put pictures up later.

superficial stuff should be about $75 a wheel

and go straight to the source (vs. dealer) to have it done

thanks Wadgras ... I already shot an e-mail over to James as per Alex@Helix recommendation so we will see what he says it just sucks to have to deal with it and I definately wouldn't take the Advan's to the dealer for repair

If they were damaged during shipping you need to file a claim with the shipping agent (UPS, FedeX, etc) not PayPal...

I make it a habit of making the driver wait till I open any packages that contain expensive items that could be damaged (especially if the container looks as if it was dropped from a plane).

That way, the driver notes on the little handheld that there was damage, and when the claim is filed, there is no question.

As far as refinishing goes, I've had wheel touched up before - but it was done thru the dealer under warranty and I have no idea of the cost, but it was definitely a local company that did the work (which obviously doesn't help you)

For anyone in the philly area, try out James at Alloy wheel repair. I have seen the work he does and it really is top notch. He is the guy that is responsible for refinishing all the BMW's that are sold at Mainline. Tell him Alex@Helix Motorsports sent you.

I wasn't home when the wheels were delivered and the concierge at my building would not have noticed the slight tears in the wrapping and PayPal covers the buyer for damage done during shipping

Well ya learn something every day

I was always under the impression that if it was shipping damage I had to file a claim with the shipping company (which has happened a couple times). Course I have never had anything arrive damaged that I paid using PayPal...

yea Quik paypal is suppose to cover it as they protect the buyer in that case ... the guy has been nonresponsive and I might just elevate the claim as I txted him and e-mailed and filed the claim ... just gonna need to escalate it so paypal can act since the the seller apparently isnt

he didn't insure the wheels when he shipped them

Nice

I always make it a point to insure anything I ship for the value that the buyer paid - or the standard $100 at a minimum.

I sure don't want to pinch pennies on the shipping as far as insurance goes, then get screwed on a damage claim. I guess some just like to roll the dice...

In this case - guess it bit him in the a$$ - seller just needs to man up and take care of it

Smart move there - I don't PayPal anything as a gift. Not worth saving a couple $$ & then have no recourse if there is a problem.

Frankly, I won't buy anything where the seller wants to charge xtra for the PP fees either - as far as I'm concerned, the seller needs to bear the cost of the transaction - not the buyer. That's the cost of doing business. I don't charge xtra for the fees.

+1 there's a reason real estate commissions are on the seller side!
