Getting higher octane is also a pain in the butt too.

The 6AT car must of been running V2.01 since the V2.02 isn't out yet. So he could of improved his time if he had V2.02 and cranked it to 94%.

Then dump a bottle of NOS racing formula to every fill. It's 10.99 per bottle and treats 16 gallons. It should increase our 91 octane to 93.5 octane. Allowing a V2.02 user to crank their settings to 94% on an otherwise stock car.

I called Famosa. They won't even have a schedule out till beginning of next year. It is absolutely ridiculous how difficult it is to find a decent place to run around here in Southern California. Someone should write Congress! LOL.
After the Jan 5th Fontana date, their next Fontana street legal drag wont be till 2 months later!

I know, it's ridiculous.
When I called Famoso like 2 months ago, they stated they are "getting ready to close for the season" on open test and tune drags.
I asked, "why, the weather is finally getting good and cold for good runs"
The woman kind of got all pissy with me and said and gave me some lame excuse that I can't even remember.
And Fontana has always been that way. They have like one open test and tune day every month or two.

It's LAME. And they wonder why so many street races take place?
Two tracks both 70-100 miles away from LA, both rarely have open test and tune days, and one seems to shut down from mid November to mid February.

At least the old LACR had test and tune nights on a weekly basis, too bad the track sucked so bad.
But they ARE working on opening a new track somewhere in LA County, but that might be a couple years away.

Yup, they say don't race on the street, "Take it to the track".
And they don't have anything decent within a 100 miles of here.
At least open up one of the local airport runways once in a while.

From what I've been reading it sounds like V2 also benefits significantly from higher octane so if all the OP gets is 91, he will still need to mix in some race gas to get the (problem free) performance he is looking for.

And of course what the OP missed is the R switch is just that, a switch. Most of the time you would just drive around with the already impressive JB2 performance but when it is a track day, or meet, or group drive, etc then you add the race fuel and turn on the switch. I would be willing to bet there isn't anyone who would buy JB2R and then run it fulltime unless they were lucky enough to live somewhere that gets 95 Octane from the pump.

Maybe I've spent too long in the Evo world, but the idea of running race gas only makes sense if there is a BIG upside. For example, my modded 03 Evo made approx 400bhp on 91 and 550bhp on 104oct (when running on the race gas map). An extra 150whp is a big upside. It's the difference between 117mph trap speeds and 125mph trap speeds. The difference between "Wow, this is fast" and "Holy S^*t, where do I hold on to?!"

In the case of my mildly modified v2 335i, I'm not blown away by the 365 to 415whp transformation that occurs when i switch to race gas. Granted, that max output has to do with hardware/fuel system/etc limitations. But still, that extra 50whp doesn't make it worth the hassle to run race gas. For me, at least.

Give me 360-370whp on pump gas any day of the week. And if that power can come without being a stinky, noisy gross polluter (running catless), even better.

I disagree, but then again I race a lot. Getting an extra 20-30rwhp with the flip of a switch can be a big benefit. For the average Joe I say go with the JB2 and call it a day.

Of course you do!

Most average Joes I run into tend to want a lot more power and a more complete tune.

I can't recall, did you become a "quiet please" go-green friend of nature before or after you removed your secondary cats and put on louder mufflers and removed your x-pipe?

By the way, removing any cats from your car can get you the same fine as the guys running catless DP's.

Who is talking about fines? You can get a fine running an nonCARB-approves air intake. But all my cars are modified, make more power than stock, YET still pass a tailpipe sniff test. And they don't belch flames or burn the eyes I'd offend the noses of people following me. To me, that's important. Not just from a law enforcement perspective, but also when it comes to basic responsibility. I'm not a smoker either, btw But your mileage may vary.

So you canceled that Riss catless downpipe order?

Actually putting tuner BS aside for a few moments, moving the cats back in the exhaust stream is great for power. They become less of a restriction as the exhaust gas cools, with the trade off of less efficient operation when cold. Not a bad trade off. Catless downpipes with stock secondary cats FTW!
